GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS There are four requirements to receive a Secondary School Diploma 1. You have achieved a minimum total of 54 credits (each course completed successfully is worth a certain number of credits) 2. 20 of these credits must come from secondary five courses 3. You must pass Secondary 4: • Math • Science • History • Art (Drama, Art, Dance or Music) 4. You must pass Secondary 5: • English, French, Phys. Ed or Ethics

CEGEP PROGRAMS Pre-University Programs • 2 Years • Objective: To go to University • Streams: Science, Commerce, Creative Arts, Liberal Arts Career Programs • 3 Years • Objective: To enter a career or to go to University • Ex: Computer science, Police Tech, Nursing Offered in all schools Specific to a school Minimum: Secondary School Diploma!!!
CEGEP PROGRAMS CONTINUED… Both Pre-University and Career programs have common “General Education” courses • English (placement test) • French (placement test) • Humanities (classes related to human civilization) • Phys. Ed (choose different sports/physical activity concentrations) • Complementary (social science, science and technology, computer science, modern languages, and arts classes)

Preparatory Science Programs Vanier • Explorations Science: You are missing one or more of the required courses and you haven’t failed anything. John Abbott • Pathways to Science: You are missing one or more of the required courses Dawson • Explorations Science: You are missing one or more of the required courses and you haven’t failed anything. • Developmental Science : Students can not apply directly to this program. You have been accepted into science but one of your marks drops in term 3 – Dawson will send you a letter in summer re-assigning you to Developmental to take supplemental course **These programs have limited spaces and are very competitive**
CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES • Adult Education Centers • If your child is missing pre-requisites they have the option of taking those classes in the Adult Education sector, for example at Access • Dawson Continuing Education program • For students who wish to complete courses specifically required by a CEGEP for admission to a program • Students registered in this program can be either part-time or full-time • Dawson Springboard program • is designed for students who want to take CEGEP credit courses in order to explore CEGEP studies, complete prerequisites required for admission to a CEGEP program, upgrade their academic record to improve chances of admission or readmission to a CEGEP program, upgrade language skills https: //www. dawsoncollege. qc. ca/conted-advising/springboard-program/

TIPS FOR STUDENTS Choose programs you have the prerequisites for: • You may need a letter of intent , portfolio or fitness testing - make sure you have time to prepare yourself! Your applications MUST BE COMPLETE! • Make sure you know your permanent code (on report card) as you will need it for your application Visit the schools you are interested in • Sign up for student for a day in January
HOW TO APPLY • Deadline for all CEGEPS = March 1 st • Students must have their permanent code • Grades will be submitted by the School Board • A copy of your birth certificate (sent in by mail or uploaded online) • Any required additional documents need to be uploaded or received by the college by the March 1 st deadline • Application fee - $30. 00 (fee is more for private CEGEPS)
