African Statistical Yearbook The African Statistical Yearbook (ASYB) is the fruitful collaboration that exists among the three pan-African organizations: ◦ African Development Bank (Af. DB); ◦ African Union Commission (AUC), and ◦ United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The objectives of this synergistic collaboration are: ◦ to minimize the risk of inconsistent information being produced by the three organizations, ◦ to reduce the reporting burden on member states, who might otherwise submit data separately to each institution. African Statistical Yearbook The ASYB consists of three parts: ◦ Front matter ◦ Summary tables ◦ Countries tables Summary tables and countries tables present time series showing how African countries performed on several economic and social indicators over a period of last 9 years. Data for countries tables are collected mainly via a questionnaire sent to National Data Focal persons Other data are collected from international sources SDMX FOR ASYB OCTOBER 2017 4

Pilot project Create the SDMX building blocks for the African Statistical Yearbook to use for data exchange among the three institutions as well as national statistics offices, which are main providers of date to the Yearbook.
