Background: Student Diversity Council What is the Student Diversity Council? The Student Diversity Council (SDC) is the umbrella organization for student groups on campus that are focused on issues of racial, cultural, sexual, and/ or gender diversity. Mission Statement: The mission of the Student Diversity Council (SDC) is to educate Furman- affiliated individuals and the Greenville community on topics of cultural diversity while advocating for cultural understanding, awareness, and equality. Vision Statement: As the umbrella organization for multicultural organizations on campus, the Student Diversity Council (SDC) seeks to share the responsibility of promoting and sustaining diversity at Furman to campuswide entities through two-way dialogue, co-sponsorships, and collaboration with the Greenville community.

Be an active member of their respective diversity organization. Agree to attend training/ retreats in the fall and spring terms. Be informed about the events and activities taking place within their respective organization. Act as a bridge between the Student Diversity Council and their respective organizations.

Furnish the Vice President with an updated copy of their constitution by the third meeting of the fall term. 12. Be present at every meeting of the Student Diversity Council. 13. Abide by the guidelines set forth by Student Diversity Council. 14. Serve as a voting member of the Student Diversity Council.

Notice • Any organization whose representative is absent for more than two consecutive meetings

Notice • Any organization whose representative is absent for more than two consecutive meetings a term or which is found in violation of the responsibilities set forth will no longer be considered a member in good standing. • The Executive Committee may freeze funding for an organization found not to be in good standing after consultation with Associate Director of Student Activities for Diversity Engagement and the leaders of the offending organization. The Student Diversity Council must be notified immediately of any action to freeze funding, but no motion to reinstate funding will be entertained until the offending organization sends a representative for two consecutive meetings. Organizations may send substitute representatives in case of the necessary absence of their normal representative. In the event that no representative for an organization is present for an entire term, that organization may have its constitution revoked by a majority vote of the full council. If a representative is not present for an entire academic year, that organization’s constitution will be automatically revoked.
