THE HISTORY • The origin of the town’s name comes from a legend that tells that Todi was built by the inhabitants of the River Tevere: " Veii Umbri". Infact during the construction of the town an eagle seized the tableclothe where the people were eating and dropped it into the top of the hill. The inhabitants of the river considered the fact as a sign of fate and built the town on the hill. Also the origin of the name "Todi" is mysterious, but many people think that it derive from the name "Tutere". On the contrary the history tells that Todi was built by the Etruschi between III and I century b. C. and during this period was builded also the first large city walls. In the first century b. C. Todi became Roman Commune. Many are the remains of the Roman period as the cisterns below the main square. In the Middle Ages Todi became a castle and it was dominated by powerful feudatories as the counts Arnolfi, the counts of Montemarte and the Atti's family. During the year 760 the Longobard's King and Pope Paul I decided the Todi's borders towards the town of Spoleto. After the 1000 the town of Todi became prosperous and all the commercial and the craftmade activities flower again. Todi became free Commune from the biginning of XII century. In 1236 was born Jacopone from a noble family. When he was 32 years old he was converted to the catholic religion and he changed all his life. Jacopone wrote also many literary works. From the biginning of XIV century Todi went through a difficult period, then also thanks to Bishop Angelo Cesi the town had taken up its economic growth again; in this period were builded also many monuments as the "Fontana della Rua or Cesia", the "Church of the Crucifix" and the "Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione".

PIANO DELL’OFFERTA FORMATIVA OUR P. O. F (1) • Preface • • The Scuola Cocchi-Aosta aims at giving equal opportunities to all students who, in the territory of Todi, come from very different social and cultural realities. The school has a deep respect for differences which can turn out to be a very important spur to most activities. Every year teachers make a specific plan called a P. O. F. (Piano dell’Offerta Formativa) with structured projects whose goal is to emphasise human and environment resources. All activities are carried on in work-groups which are not necessarily the same as class-groups. This provides each child with the chance to be successful both at school and in his own growing up. (1) It is the general plan of the school organization. It includes the didactic and educative outlines of all the activities and projects carried on in the school year.
