SCS Students: Staying Well Together ‘Community’ School = Minding Ourselves to Mind Each Other First things first…
What we’re going to cover today… • Reflection on our Wellbeing and how life has changed • Reconnecting with School and with Each Other • Preparing to get the most from School this year
What were the Biggest Changes for you? • Very strange end to last school year. . • Contact with friends and family limited. . (Or Too Much of It) • Extra Curricular Activities Paused or Changed. . • Having to pause before I greet someone … remind myself of the safety guidelines • Non-Stop Covid News!
What had the biggest impact? Have there been any Positives of the Lockdown? • Developing relationships at home • New ZOOM friends, • Time to try/develop new hobbies • More time to myself: to think about where I’m headed with my future… (take a few mins to discuss these topics with your seating partner: Positives/Negatives)
Wellbeing • It’s not just a BUZZ Word… and now it’s more important than ever! • Who Looks after your Wellbeing? • Everyone who cares for you! : Parents, Relatives, Friends, Teachers, Coaches BUT It’s your responsibility too • You HAVE heard it all before BUT are you ready to practice it?
Share Your Covid Survival Strategies! Take a few minutes to fill your seating partner in on all the positive and creative ways you came up with to Stay Sane during Lockdown! What were the biggest challenges?
Lets start with a quick review of the basics: • Many of you will have some worries and anxieties about being back in school: Health Concerns, Worry about time missed, Academic concerns about the future, All the new changes and procedures in school may be causing feelings of ‘Information Overload’ and/or Frustration • So… What can you do to manage this before your head feels like it’s going to explode?
Remember:
The Good News: You CAN control the basics. . • Following the Covid Health Guidance in School and in your wider life • Make sure you have a basic self-care routine: Healthy Diet, Regular Exercise, Enough Sleep (8 hrs recommended Minimum) • Extras: Limit time on social media (especially News Sites) and have a cut-off time at least 1 Hour before bed-time. • Take regular Time-Outs! A few minutes to notice your Breath, Sounds you can hear, sensations in your body • Lets do it now!
What about all the changes in School? Staff and Students are being asked to make a lot of big changes to their School Routines… changes like these can make us feel very uncomfortable and even upset… How do we Cope? This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND
Managing all these changes !!!!!! 1 St Don’t ignore the uncomfortable feelings or pretend they’re not there. . It’s Ok to feel this way when we are asked to change familiar routines. Let people you trust know how you are feeling, talk it through 2 nd Trust that these changes are being put in place and asked of everyone so that you and your families can be kept as safe as possible… If you are confused about any of the changes ask for clarity, it will be a lot to take in and get comfortable with, this may take time
3 rd The rewards for your sacrifice and willingness to adapt will be the knowledge that you have contributed to the Health and Safety of everyone in your Community at SCS • You are keeping your family safer • You are maintaining a standard of health, hygiene and positivity in the School that will allow you to continue to Progress your Education and maintain your in-person friendships What if I’m still finding it difficult?
You won’t be on your own! We will all be going through an adjustment phase and we will all support each other to adjust as smoothly as possible Just ask for: Help/ Support/ Clarity! www. spunout. ie, www. jigsaw. ie, www. mentalhealthireland. ie
If you are worried or finding things difficult, talk to a staff member you trust and we will make sure you get the support you need
Reconnecting with School and with Each Other It’s great to be back in face to face contact with friends and colleagues but it has to be different! We must remember the rules for social distance and hygiene. . Protect yourself, your friends and your family
