Scrambler WEB Browser Interface ˜ Scrambler publishes its monitoring and alerting information on the Internet WEB (with security) which provides an extremely useful feedback loop for support. ˜ When you get an alert you can go into Internet Explorer or Netscape and browse the Scrambler WEB page. ˜From there you can see the status of all current alerts and what problems are outstanding. If an escalating alert is in progress you cancel any further escalation. ˜You can also send a ‘manual page’ from here to a pager or cellphone to tell someone else what is happening. ˜Any user can make use of manual paging as a valuable addition to email. For security, they can only page the centrally maintained contact list.

UNIX Monitoring with SYSLOG UNIX SYSLOG is a built-in part of all UNIX servers, and automatically monitors UNIX events. It is the UNIX equivalent of the NT Event Logs. Monitoring Open. VMS with Scrambler The Open. VMS LOGIN MO logs into the Alpha/Vax host and runs DCL scripts to check for system problems. The following are examples of Open. VMS problems detected: - èLow disc free space (%) eg DUA 0: èExistence of critical processes èExistence of critical batch and print queues eg SYS$BATCH èDevice errors eg MUA 0: In addition, the Scrambler paging command is provided in DCL to allow alerting from any existing DCL script.

Monitoring HP 3000 with Scrambler The HP 3000 LOGIN MO logs into the HP 3000 host and runs several MPE/i. X tests to check for system problems. The following potential problems are monitored by default: - 4 Turbo. Image Database capacities (% Full) 4 Existence of critical MPE BATCH JOBS 4 Disc volume free space (%) 4 Old Console messages not REPLY’d to (> 30 MIN) 4 Unspooled printers in the HP 3000 spool queue 4 $STDLIST error scan with MPEX, NBSpool etc. In addition, the Scrambler SYSLOG MO can be used by HP 3000’s on MPEi. X 6. 0 or greater. This provides a new ‘LOGGER’ command in MPE/i. X to allow alerting from any existing MPE batch job or command line.

Monitoring AS/400 with Scrambler ¢Scrambler can monitor any number of IBM AS/400 servers from a single NT workstation. ¢AS/400 monitoring uses the Scrambler’s AS/400 LOGIN Monitored Object (MO). ¢User provides AS/400 username and password to the MO in the ‘Scrambler for NT’ software so it can log in. ¢The MO periodically logs into the AS/400 to check system availability (the frequency is set by the user). ¢After it has logged in, the MO can run CL scripts on the AS/400 to check for additional critical problems.
