Scouting Getting everyone back together safely Were looking
Scouting – Getting everyone back together safely We’re looking forward to getting back to scouting as soon as it is safe to do so. We wanted to share with you our thoughts on how that will look in 1 st Charlton Air and Sea Scout Group You can find the Scouts national guidance on Scouting – Getting everyone back together safely at this link
We will follow the Scouts national guidance • We will return to scouting when our leadership team is ready to do so, when we have received the approval to do so from the scout authorities and when our young people and their parents and carers are ready. • Scouting will resume following the readiness levels shown in the table. This approach is common with other youth associations who are part of the National Youth Association. • This approach will be different to the measures used in schools. More detail can be found at this link. • We will be maintaining 2 m social distancing, and need your help to make this successful • • • We will be washing hands regularly • We’d love to hear from parents, carers and our young people about how we can make scouting better within the restrictions we know about. We will be cleaning more frequently Whilst we hope we progress from Red through Amber and Yellow to Green over time, in the event of local lockdowns, we may revert back to red at any time.
How will you assess risk? • With your help please! • We’d love to hear from parents, carers and our young people about how we can make scouting better within the restrictions we know about. • Risk assessment has 5 stages; identifying hazards (use the guidewords in the wheel), identify who may be harmed, identify controls and who will implement them, record and share results and revise as often as necessary • You can see the Hut’s ‘normal operating’ risk assessment at this link. This assesses the risk of using the hut for our normal activities. It still applies now. • You can see the Returning to Safe Scouting Risk Assessment at this link. This assesses the risk during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2 need to be read together. • Have we missed anything?
How can I help as a parent or carer of a beaver, cub or scout? • If you suspect your young person has COVID-19 symptoms, or has been in contact with someone who has – self-isolate at home and follow Government guidance on testing. • Read and seek clarification if you need it from your young person’s leadership team so you know what they’ll be doing, and any risks involved. • Help your young person choose the right clothing, footwear and equipment for the meeting • Help them remember to bring a full water bottle, that they should keep for themselves. • Remind them of the need to maintain social distancing, avoid touching their face and washing hands thoroughly and frequently. • We’re all working our way through these strange times – all great ideas, suggestions, and offers of help are welcome – please give us a call!
How many young people and adults can meet together? • This will be updated – up and down – as the situation evolves. • On 6 July guidance for England, the maximum number (adults and young people) at one meeting will be 15
