What is Crime Prevention • Crime Prevention is the technique of reducing or eliminating opportunities for crime. • It is easy to learn and to apply. • It can be your second nature.
CRIME PREVENTION CONCEPT Police takes a proactive approach towards crime prevention. l l Rationale: prevention is always better than cure. Crime is preventable as many crimes are opportunistic in nature and attributable to victim’s negligence or carelessness. l Police cannot prevent crime alone. Therefore the community has the shared responsibility of crime prevention. l

Arrange for someone to escort you when returning home late.

Press the “DOOR OPEN” button to exit if any stranger rushes in. q Avoid wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large amounts of cash. q If confronted, surrender your valuables on demand one at a time and try to remember any distinct features of the culprit.

Press “DO” when a stranger rushes in as the door is closing and step out immediately. ¤ Let the stranger take the lift and you wait for the next one ¤ Do not nap or sleep when using public transport ¤ Alert other passengers or seek help from driver if you are disturbed by someone
