SCIGN REASo. N Goals • Generate higher level products from SCIGN data for use by the SCIGN community • Apply modern IT methodology within SCIGN to: • – Produce and disseminate higher-level data products to a larger community of • • Scientists Government agencies (Federal, State, and Local) Surveyors GIS professionals Build on current capabilities within SCIGN for data archiving, information systems, and data analysis to disseminate the following products: – – – Geodetic position time series Crustal motion models Strain rate maps Geologic fault models Near-real-time earthquake response information Geodetic reference systems for precise GIS and surveying – – Archiving End-user interfaces Delivery mechanisms Data modeling • Improve capabilities in • Open source project based on a redundant, multi-tiered “Virtual Archive” for GPS applications. Sept. 19, 2004 SCIGN REASo. N Project 4
High Level Requirements • Needs • Products are “scientific publication” quality – Verified, validated, and reference able • Processing centers and processes use the same input data • Goals • All processing retrieves data from a common source • Products are quantified, reproducible, and based on verified and validated data and established processes • Web distribution of products contains complete information on product generation • Objectives • • Sept. 19, 2004 Employ Seamless Archive Interface through Web services Pull data at time of analysis Push results into archive Pull products from archive for distribution Provide full accounting of product Provide tools/recipes for product reproduction Provide On-demand analysis SCIGN REASo. N Project 5
Status • Architecture – Framework is defined based on web services – Interfaces are being defined, developed, and documented on the web • Combination – Validated QOCA against GLOBK • Found several quantitative and reasoning issues – SIO and JPL solutions are being combined with QOCA – Producing web products using interim interfaces on a weekly basis • GPS Explorer – Prototype web portal for exploring GPS data products • http: //reason. scign. org – Combined products being posted on web on a weekly basis • Interim Milestones – Combination based on prototype web services by SCIGN annual meeting in Spring 2005 – Combined products based on web services by July 2005 Sept. 19, 2004 SCIGN REASo. N Project 6
SCIGN REASo. N Cyber. Infrastructure • Structured around Four systems – Product Input • Seamless Archive a community based system • Via web services – GPS Data Processing • Verified and validated products using 2 independent systems • GAMIT and GIPSY – Product Generation • Based on award winning QOCA software – Product Delivery • Via Virtual Archive • With web services • – – Meta data Products Extensible to Earth. Scope Needs for High Level Product Generation and Distribution for – PBO – SAFOD – USArray Sept. 19, 2004 While project was endorsed by UNAVCO and product levels were adopted by PBO, there currently are no official connections with Earth. Combination • Our philosophy – The conventional combination approach simply aligns several loosely constrained solutions to a predefined reference system using 7 -parameter Helmet transformation. – A more rigorous combination approach should consider both the systematic differences and random errors. – We are pursuing such a more rigorous approach. • Current progress in our combination process: – Validate process against GLOBK v 5. 06 and v 5. 08 – ST filter development – Automated combination generation every week using interim web interfaces – Solution quality report development – Some open issues to be addressed by SCIGN Annual Meeting Sept. 19, 2004 SCIGN REASo. N Project 10
Combination • Based on QOCA software • • Technique validated against GLOBK Issues found – http: //gipsy. jpl. nasa. gov/qoca/ – Pole tide correction GAMIT uses absolute pole position. While GIPSY uses de-mean pole position. GLOBK V 5. 06 has no correction. V 5. 08 performs backward de-mean pole correction. several mm – Network constraint GLOBK v 5. 06 has a bug, v 5. 08 has corrected weighting such a bug. Bug: var_tot = var_tot + cov_parm(jel, jel)**2 Should be: var_tot = var_tot + cov_parm(jel, jel) sub-mm to 1 mm – Network constraint GLOBK v 5. 08 adds a new criterion based on outlier criterion horizontal postfit sigmas. GIPSY uses different outlier criteria. QOCA tries to match GLOBK v 5. 08 criteria first and modifies it later. 2 -3 mm sometimes – Geodetic datum GLOBK, GAMIT use flatness 1/298. 257222101 (NAD 83). GIPSY uses 1/298. 257 (IERS 89). QOCA uses 1/298. 257223563 (WGS 84). 1 -2 mm level – Network constraint GLORG has a bug of calculating median value of median value postfit residuals 3 -5 mm or up – Network constraint GLORG criterion for horizontal postfit residual delete site criterion has some inconsistency, will be modified in QOCA. 3 -5 mm or u Sept. 19, 2004 SCIGN REASo.
