Science Fair Notebook • • NOTEBOOK RULES Use a composition book, NOT a spiral bound book Use blue or black ink only If you make a mistake, do not erase or use white out. Do not tear out any pages from your notebook. Put one line through the mistake and then continue on the next line. Your notebook will not be graded for neatness. This is a book for you to record research, ideas and any observations or ideas you have about your project. Do not doodle in notebook unless it is an idea for the project When making notes in the Research section of your notebook, summarize what you read as much as possible. Do not staple or tape copies of research articles into your notebook. Be sure to cite the source for your research in your Research notes so that you can include it in your bibliography. See Bibliography page to see how to cite References. Date everything you do in your composition book!

Cover of your book: • Put your first and last name, • the period you have Science, and • Science Project 2015 -2016 on the outside cover

• Number all the pages in the bottom corner • Skip the first page

Table of Contents • Write in pen • Don’t write a new section, until you are ready to complete that section • Add the page numbers as you complete a section!

Question to Investigate • Write in Pen • This needs to be a question you can do an experiment to answer! NOT a research only question! • Put a box around the question you get approved.

Research • 3 pages front an back (however you can do more!!) • Write in pen • This is the background research you need to fully understand your question to investigate. Think topics, ideas, diagrams… • Use books and the internet • Do not self entered sites like wikapedia, ask. com, or answers. com • Your research can be in outline format, paragraphs or lists • Include pictures! • Keep track of what sites you use! You will make a bibliography later!
