Science Egyptian Style! Ancient Egyptians made papyrus, a paper-like material, from a plant that grows on the banks of the Nile. The papyrus plant was also used for making sandals, ropes and baskets. What do you think are the changes that happen when papyrus is made into paper? Can we create a sheet of paper using scraps of old paper? How does our paper compare with new paper?

Make Your Own Egyptian Papyrus Paper You will need: brown paper/newspaper, or a brown paper bag white glue & water mix empty clean yoghurt pot small paintbrush coloured crayons black pen coloured tissue paper strips (optional) Using a white glue wash mixture can get a little messy. Protect your work surface and clothing before you start and wash your hands afterwards. Don't forget to help tidy up after you have finished making your papyrus paper.

It includes paintings, sculptures, drawings on papyrus, jewellery, ivories, architecture, and other art media. It is also very conservative: the art style changed very little over time.
