Science Body Systems
How does your body work? • • • How does your body breath? How does your body digest food? How does your body move? How does your body fight bacteria? How does your body get rid of waste? How does your body do all the amazing stuff it does everyday?
Your body has ‘Systems’! • Your body uses several systems in order to function. • Think about your body as a city. • There are lots of systems that help a city run • Can you think of any? • Plumbing, electricity, internet, mail, hospitals police stations, school, offices, etc.
Body Systems • The systems that your body uses are called BODY SYSTEMS • Some people call these systems ORGAN SYSTEMS • There are 10 main body systems in your body • Lets take a look…
Name of the body system What does it do? Digestive System Breaks down food you eat and help your body get the nutrients from your food. Respiratory System Helps your body breath in oxygen and breath out carbine dioxide. Circulatory system Helps move blood around your body and carry important nutrients. Skeletal system Gives your body shape, support and protection Muscular system Helps your body move in many ways. Immune system Helps protect your body from bacteria, parasites and other intruders Excretory system Removes waste from your body Endocrine System Releases hormones into your body Reproductive System A system that creates cells so humans can reproduce Nervous System Sends messages throughout your body.
Body Systems-Organs • Each body system has at least 2 ORGANS working together to help your body • Each organ is made up of TISSUES • Muscle, brain, skin, etc. • Each tissue is made up of millions of CELLS • Your body has over 60 trillion cells

Lets zoom in! • Cells are small but vey important! • All living things are made with cells • Cells reproduce to make other cells just like them
Cells have organs too? • Cells have ORGANELLES • ORGANELLE = small organs • The organelles help the cells do their jobs properly!
Lets look at animal cells and their parts
Cell membrane • The cell membrane is the protective layer for the cell • It controls what goes in and out
Cytoplasm • The liquid inside the cell • Mainly water • Helps keep the organelles steady
Nucleus • The brain of the cell! • Information the cell needs to work properly is in here! • DNA is found here
Endoplasmic Reticulum • The roads of a cell • They transport things from one place of a cell to another
Golgi Apparatus • The post office of the cell! • It packages important things to be sent from place to place in the cell.
Vacuoles • Vacuoles store things like food or waste so the cell can get rid of them later or use them later
Lysosomes • Lysosomes break down waste using chemicals called ENZYMES • Lysosomes help get rid of waste in the cell
