SCIENCE AND DATABASES CLASSIFICATION OF ORGANISMS
CLASSIFICATION Classification is the process of grouping things based on their shared characteristics. Those characteristics could be anything from the habitat in which they live, the type of food they eat, they way they breath or even what kingdom they are in. We have learnt in our previous database lessons that we can separate things using either one or several different data fields.
HTTPS: //WWW. YOUTUBE. COM/WATCH? V=VQXOMJI BGCY • I would like you to watch the film on the above hyperlink. This is to refresh your memory the levels of classification. • If you had a group of living organisms in front of you, how you would organise them? It may not be in the way the film showed, it may be more simple, but which ever way it organises them into groups they share specific features with each other.
ACTIVITY I have sent you a 2 DO. • I would like you to chose between 8 and 16 living organisms, they can be a mixture of plants and animals or just plants or animals. • Then I would like you to complete your own DATABASE using 2 INVESTIGATE and those living organisms. • Create data fields with at least 5 values for each organisms (for instance, are you an animal or a plant). • When all has been completed, interrogate the database using FIND and separate the organisms using searches with AND. • Try out your database to find different organisms that have the same features. • SAVE your work and HAND-IN.
Press the blue cross to add your living organisms – import a picture and the Data Name To add the data design, click the icon with the pencil. Then add your questions and the style in which you would like the answers to be answered, it doesn’t have to be yes or no.
This is an example of using FIND.
