Who we are We are a group of determined engineering and business students from the University of Calgary with a passion for UAV’s (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). Since 2015, we have developed composite planes with objectidentifying software that were all built in-house.

Our mission The primary objective of Schulich UAV is to “ provide an opportunity for students to gain extracurricular experience working with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology, learning to collaborate on a multidisciplinary team, and to involve students within the community and industries ”

UAV design After two years and as many prototypes, we have developed a plane that has the capabilities to excel in any competition setting. The entire plane is designed and fabricated right here at the University of Calgary, where it has: • A fully composite structure • Full carbon fiber wings that are 2. 4 m long and weigh only 800 grams • Battery power that allow it to fly for almost an hour with its fully electric motor • The ability to transmit high-resolution video over 30 km • The ability to fly faster than 80 km/h. • A carbon fibre monocoque

Competition Our Home Calgary, Alberta In our last competition, the 2017 Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Competition, our plane was tasked to fly a predetermined flight path autonomously and automatically detect and map geese locations, numbers and species. To determine geese locations, the plane used our in-house built software in coordination with the camera to look for specific shapes and colors, which then used human verification to determine the species. Out of 15 teams, we placed 6 th overall which is extremely well for our first year of competition. We are heading back to the 2018 Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Competition in May where we hope to finish in the top 3. In this competition, our team will be tasked to conduct surveillance of a farm, deliver a remote listening device to a location on the property based on results of the surveillance and to search a large area adjacent to the property for vital pieces of evidence. Competitions May 2018
