We will be talking about the history of school uniforms and also the pro and con sides of uniforms. Rationale: This power point relates to standard #3 because the use of school uniforms can create an equal school environment for all students, and uniforms promote positive social interaction.

School Uniforms History!!! Statistics of school uniform use: 1. The number of public schools requiring school uniforms went from 13% in the 2003 -2004 school year to 19% in the 2011 -2012 school year. 2. 20% of public elementary schools and 12% of secondary schools required school uniforms in the 2011 -2012 school year. 3. Mandatory uniforms are used more in “high poverty” schools (where 76% of students were able to get reduced-cost or free lunch” than in “low poverty” schools 4. Schools with highest use of uniforms: Philadelphia (100% of schools), New Orleans (95%), Cleveland (85%), Chicago (80%), Boston (65%), and Miami (60%).
