Purpose of Advisory Council The advisory council is a representative group of stakeholders (e. g. parent, staff, community, administration, etc. ) selected to review and advise on the implementation of the school counseling program. www. schoolcounselor. org (ASCA, 2015)

The Role of the School Counselor Goal: Design and implement a program that promotes student achievement and well being. -Preventative by design -Driven by data -Ensures equitable access to all options that support a rigorous education for all students How do students benefit as a result of what School Counselors do? To demonstrate the effectiveness of our school counseling program, we will collect and analyze data from our school community. Harper Park counselors will use data to show the impact of the school counseling program on student achievement, attendance, and behavior.

Mission Statement of Harper Park Middle School We, the entire Harper Park family, will encourage lifelong learning and the development of global citizens. We will provide a safe, nurturing environment that encourages acceptance, personal responsibility, and respect for self and others. We will work to instill perseverance, academic excellence, and 21 st century skills, in order to make our students successful in collaborative, independent, and differentiated learning environments. Mission/Vision of HPMS Counseling Department The professional school counseling program at Harper Park Middle School provides equitable access and opportunity for all students in order that they may identify and achieve their goals in academic and career planning and personal/social development. To achieve these goals WE WILL: -Collaborate with students, administration, teachers, parents, and stakeholders to create a sense of community and an environment of positive exchange. -Support a developmentally appropriate learning environment the celebrates our unique diversity. -Create authentic relationships with our students and families based on mutual respect and honesty. -Align with the ASCA National Standards in order to support achievement for ALL students so that they will become productive members of our global society.

How are Counseling Services Delivered? Direct Services: School Counseling Core Curriculum Individual Student Planning: course selection each year, Academic and Career Plans, Goal Setting-behavioral and/or academic Responsive Services: crisis intervention, peer and adult relationship assistance, academic/behavioral intervention plans Indirect Services: teacher collaboration, parent conferences, parent workshops,

Use of Data School Climate data Pre/Post Surveys for groups and classroom lessons Each counselor has individual goals, as does the department Grade Level Needs Assessments at the start of each year: Needs Assessment given to all 7 th grade students this year Needs Assessment given to all 7 th grade parents this year

Annual Goals By Spring of 2017 98% of HPMS students will be say they Always feel safe coming to school. Current data shows 74. 5% of students report ALWAYS and SOMETIMES feeling safe coming to school. (HPMS Student Climate Survey Fall 2016) By Spring of 2017 98% of HPMS students will be able to name TWO adults at school that they trust to go to for help if needed. Current data shows 50% of students are able to do this. (HPMS Student Climate Survey, Fall 2016)
