§ The State Tuition Waiver is a state funded program that allows a certain percentage off each semester of select schools that are affiliated with the State Tuition Waiver Program. § You must e-mail or call your Retention Manager to request one before EACH semester that you need a waiver letter for. § Waiver letters can only be e-mailed through encrypted formats due to PII on the form, so you must be able to access the letter through your military e-mail or pick the waiver letter up at TSgt Goldstein’s office. § Submit your waiver letter to your Bursar’s Office at the time of registration. § It is best to the State Tuition Waiver letter FIRST to allow for the discount to be applied, then complete the STAR Form (see slide 6).
§ The STAR (State Tuition Assistance Reimbursement) Form is a state funded form that can reimburse you each semester up to a certain allotted amount. § What this means is, you will have to pay out of pocket at the beginning of the school year, but be able to pay off your loan or statement for that semester at the end of the semester, granted you pass the class. § For FY 19 (1 JULY 2018 – 1 JULY 2019), the maximum allotted amount is $5000 per semester that you can get reimbursed for. *This is subject to change from FY to FY* § You must pass your class with a ‘C’ OR HIGHER. If you do not pass with a ‘C’ or higher, you will not be reimbursed for your class.

§ After you have completed your classes, you must submit your final grades BEFORE 25 JUNE of each year because the end of the State FY is 30 JUNE. § If you do not pass with a ‘C’ or higher, you must submit 2 copies of your final grade irregardless. § Payments are typically made within 6 -8 weeks. § If you submit your grades after 25 JUNE, your payment will be delayed past the 6 -8 week window.
§ Fax copies and E-mail copies of STAR Forms ARE accepted. However, they must be typed in, legible, and an e-mail must be sent to verify that it has been received. § A return e-mail will act as your receipt of acceptance. If you have not received an e- mail back stating that we have received your STAR Form information, please call. § It is YOUR responsibility to submit this form on time and with the required documentation. This is for your education, so we would like to submit this with as little issue as possible, to ensure a smooth transaction between us and state funding. § The STAR Form applies to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree’s. *This is subject to change from FY to FY*
§ The Montgomery G. I. Bill is a federally funded program, available to every military member once they return from their technical school training. § The MGIB is a stipend that you receive each month in the form of a check, after you have verified your status of enrollment through W. A. V. E. § The amount of your MGIB depends on your AFSC and if you entered into a critical career field or not. If you did not, you will receive $384 a month (FY 19). If you entered into a critical career field, you will receive $734 a month (FY 19), due to the MGIB Kicker that you receive on top of the MGIB. § Montgomery G. I. Bill is good for 36 months – the months that count are the months that you are actively in school. Ex: If you are not taking classes over the summer, those summer months do not count.
§ Upon returning from technical school, the member must see TSgt Goldstein in order to get the MGIB instated so that the member will become eligible. § Go to https: //www. vets. gov and click on “Apply for Education Benefits” § Click on “Find Your Education Benefits Form” § Answer the questinos in the section by click the appropriate bubble until you reach a point where you can select “Apply Now”. § Fill out all of the sections and once you are finished, click “Submit Application”. § You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in the mail. Once you receive that letter, you will be able to use the MGIB. § Go to your college’s V. A. office. They will have you fill out a form (VAForm 22 -1990) to use your MGIB at that college. You will check off Chapter 1606 (Selected Reserve). § You must verify the last day of every month for the previous month’s enrollment. § You can certify via phone: 1 -(877) 823 – 2378 Or via website: https: //www. gibill. va. gov/wave/index. do § Please refer to their user guide for first time users on how to create a log in account. § Do NOT verify for the months that you are not in school. If you do, you will receive a check for an unverified month and you will have to pay the amount back due to the discrepancy.
§ Do not go on https: //www. vets. gov to complete another application, unless you are changing schools or degree plans (Bachelor’s/Master’s/Etc. ) § As soon as registration for the next term begins, make another appointment with your college’s V. § Post 9/11 G. I. Bill is a federally funded program that provides schol benefits for military members who have at least 90 days of active duty service after September 10 th, 2001 and have an honorable discharge. § You must have 4 years of retainability in service in order to transfer these benefits to a spouse or a child. § Maximum payment of $23, 671 per year for private or foreign school. § Deployments and Honor Guard time do count towards active duty service. § Apply on E-Benefits (after receiving you DD 214). § Once you apply, you should receive a letter in 30 days in the mail stating your eligibility. § See VA Representative or speak to a VA Representative via phone of the school that you are going to be attending (Bring a copy of your letter or e-mail them). § From there, the VA Representative will guide you as to what forms you need to fill out in order to start using your Post 9/11. § IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING BENEFITS: Apply on Mil. Connect (Remember: you must have 4 years retainability to do so – don’t wait until it’s too late!)
§ Air Force Aid Society The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is the official charity of the United States Air Force. AFAS offers a Spouse Tuition Assistance Program (STAP) for spouses of active duty personnel who accompany members to overseas locations. Applications for the 2012 -2013 academic year will be available beginning November 1, 2011. More detailed information about eligibility can be found on the Web site. § General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program The Air Force Aid Society plans to award up to 3, 000 grants to dependents of Air Force members for their college education through the General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program. Applications for these $2, 000 need-based grants are now available from the Society's Web site. The grant program is open to dependent children of active duty, Title 10. Reservists on extended active duty, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired reservists, and deceased Air Force members. Spouses of active duty members and surviving spouses of deceased personnel are also eligible. § Mike & Gail Donley Spouse Scholarship The Air Force Spouse Scholarship program is designed to encourage Air Force spouses worldwide to pursue associate/bachelor undergraduate or graduate/postgraduate degrees. The applicant must be a spouse of Air Force Active Duty, Air National Guard, or Air Force Reserve to be eligible. Spouses who are also members of the service are not eligible. Additional requirements are available on the Web site.
§ American Patriot Freedom Scholarship Since launching the American Patriot Freedom Scholarship Program in 2006, the program, administered by Homefront America, Inc. has awarded over $95, 000 in scholarships. Each year, military dependent children from around the world submit their essays hoping to receive one of 25 - $1, 000 scholarships. § Spouse Buzz This site, dedicated to military spouses, has information and resources for spouses. § Folds of Honor Scholarship The Folds of Honor Foundation offers college scholarships for spouses and children of service members disabled in action or killed in action in Iraq or Afghanistan. Applications may be submitted in advance for children who will not need the scholarship for several years. Scholarship amounts are determined on a case-by-case basis. § Hope for the Warriors HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS™, offers multiple scholarships to U. S. military spouses of wounded service members and Fallen Warriors.
§ National Military Family Association The National Military Family Association Scholarship Fund awards scholarships for Military spouses. Applications, when available, are posted on their Web site. § Scholarships for Military Children The Defense Commissary Agency and Fisher House Foundation, Inc. have created the Scholarships for Military Children Program. This program awards a $1, 500 scholarship at every commissary location where qualified applications are received. The scholarship provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees, and other related expenses. Dependent, unmarried children, under age 23, of active duty personnel, Reserve, Guard and retired military members, or survivors of deceased members, are eligible to apply. § Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA) The Dependents' Educational Assistance Program is funded and provided by the Veteran's Administration (VA). The DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training. If you are a spouse, you may take a correspondence course. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. § Thanks USA offers scholarships to spouses and dependents of active duty service members or Reservists and National Guard members who have been activated.
§ American Association of University Women The American Association of University Women offers scholarships for women. These scholarships are awarded to eligible women who meet the specific requirements of AAUW Branch and State offices. § Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Links to various grants and scholarship opportunities. See Web site for details and application dates. § Broke Scholar is a free scholarship search engine. § College Board allows students to search for available grants and scholarships. § College Net This database contains listings of more than 500, 000 private-sector awards from 1, 570 sponsors. § College Scholarships provides information about scholarships for students across the country. Browse available scholarships by subject, state, student status, or other categories. § College Toolkit, formerly Lunch Money, provides a free scholarship search program. § Education Resource Organizations Directory A tool to locate State Educational Funding. § Fast Web Fastweb is a free scholarship Web site for parents and students. The site includes a loan calculator and list of key dates for financial aid and admissions. § Federal Student Aid Scholarship Search This page of the Federal Student Aid Web site offers a scholarship search. The Student Aid site also offers a Financial Aid and Scholarship Wizard. § Fin Aid is a comprehensive Web site that provides information on loans, scholarships, military aid, and other sources of educational funding. § Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Federal Student Aid, an office of the U. S. Department of Education, ensures that all eligible individuals can benefit from federally funded or federally guaranteed financial assistance for education beyond high school. We consistently champion the promise of postsecondary education to all Americans and its value to our society.
§ Gov. Benefits. gov is the official benefits Web site of the U. S. government, with information on over a thousand benefit and assistance programs. They include education grants and loans, health, housing, and other types of assistance. To obtain a tailored list of benefit programs for which you may be eligible, complete the free and confidential questionnaire on the Gov. Benefits. gov homepage. Or search for all programs by state, category, state, or federal agency by going to “Benefits. ” § Military. com This commercial site has information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities for military family member. Under “Benefits” click on “Education” and follow the link for “Money for School. ” § Military Community Scholarship and Financial Aid Explorer This site helps military members and their family research scholarship and financial aid opportunities. § Military Officers Association of America Scholarship The Military Officers Association of America has multiple scholarship opportunities. Visit their Web site for details and deadlines. § Military One. Source This site contains information and links to financial support for service members, children and spouses pursuing an education. Information on branch-specific tuition assistance programs is also available. § Outlaw Student offers six scholarship programs. § Pat Tillman Foundation The Pat Tillman Foundation offers Tillman Military Scholarships for service members and their dependents.
§ Peterson’s Undergraduate Scholarship Search The undergraduate scholarship search helps you find private awards and grants to help cut college costs. By answering questions about yourself and your activities, you can narrow down the scholarships to the ones that match your qualifications. Start by going to “College Success Tools” then “Pay for School. ” § SAT/ACT Prep Program for Military Families e. Knowledge Corporation and NFL football players have donated over $20 million of SAT software to military families worldwide. Military service members, veterans, and dependents can order free SAT test preparation products worth $200 by visiting the e. Knowledge Web site. Software is free, you only pay for shipping and handling. § Scholarships. com offers a free searching tool for finding scholarships. § Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) The SMART scholarship program is offered to undergraduate and graduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. According to the Web site interested applicants should have a strong interest in working for the Do. D as a civilian research scientist or engineer. § State Higher Education Agency Contacts The U. S.
