In year Admissions Making a decision to move a Ci. C in year: Logistical reasons Suggestion by a school (or carer) that it is in the best interests of the child to move to another school Suggestion of a ‘fresh start’ or managed move (transfer) Please discuss any potential move of school with the Virtual School prior to taking any action Please report any threat of permanent exclusion to the Virtual School and the area Access Casework Officer
Once decision is made to move a child to another school Make applications direct to the school Can take 10 school days to process and a further 30 school days once an appeal has been made Contact Schooladmissions@somerset. gov. uk or 01823 355608 for information: Where there are places available in Somerset schools General advice about the process If having problems securing a school place
Must complete an application form – a phone call is not an application Should complete an application form for all schools within a reasonable distance simultaneously Catchment map on SCC website or you can contact Somerset Direct or the Admissions Team Applications to schools rated by OFSTED as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ Consider transport arrangements No right of appeal until a refusal letter has been received
Somerset children placed out of county In Year process is likely to be different so check LA website and / or contact their admissions team
Things to remember for In Year admissions Ensure any move of school has been discussed with the Virtual School Apply as early as possible – a phone call is not an application – do not be put off applying by school staff Apply to all local schools Keep a copy and record of the application eg registered post / email trail Chase and complain if there is no response with 10 days Contact Somerset Direct or the Admissions Team if you need help or advice
