Schole’ Greek for “restful learning”. It embodies a slower, sane education that cultivates truth, beauty and virtue through the lens of God’s creation and Word.
Our Vision Sola Gratia Classical Academy is a blend of classical and creative education. It is a community experience in excellence for homeschool families that facilitates contemplative, intentional learning, with a particular emphasis on Truth, Beauty, and Virtue. Using the Christian Classical Tradition, we seek to develop a child’s educational experience through the lens of God’s Word and the beauty of God’s creation. We seek to bring together like-minded Christian homeschooling families in a liturgical community context offering rhythmic learning through high-quality, creatively taught classes, punctuated by celebrations in learning, inspiring students to excellence in the classical Christian Tradition.

What is Liturgy in Classical Education? • Liturgy is organizing a response, through the body with; sights, colors, sounds, smells, touch, taste, and poetic language. Simply –it’s the way we teach, what we teach. • Liturgy forms virtue in our students • The way we teach truth affects the way our students will love it and live it. • The way to a student’s heart is through their body. Two Different Liturgies What you think Is their heart touched The Grade The experience in Truth, Beauty and Goodness Define Terms Reductionistic Following a List of Rules Answering with a Story Poetic/expansive Imitating an Example -Jenny Rallens
Affects of Liturgy • Trains our affections with experiences as well as explanations. • The way we learn something is much more influential then the something we learn. • The form of a lesson teaches as much as it’s content. Because we were created as story telling, embodied, communal beings, this liturgy of specific bodily practices leads to heart change, which leads to virtue formation. – Jenny Rallens Again, it’s not the content of the curriculum but the form of the pedagogy! -Jenny Rallens
Two Types of Liturgy Studying the Atlantic Ocean Explanation Experience Know All the Facts Touch the ocean Read All the Books Hear and feel the waves Drawn all the Maps. Curriculum – A Shift in Thinking Curriculum in Latin = running, a racecourse • It’s not about a book. • We focus not on what we must cover but what we might uncover. • How we teach is just as important as what we teach. -Sarah Mac. Kenzie Teaching from Rest
Our Academic Mentors We believe students should be taught by those who are passionate about a subject. They teach out of the overflow of their passion and delight. Teachers are “masters of their art” and hold a degree in that subject and/or a high interest and personal pursuit of the subject, creating passion for it. Our Leadership Team works collaboratively with one another to create a beautiful education for our students.
