Saving Water & Energy How water-distribution fountains affect Saving Water Saving Energy Alessandro T. 4°A ITA G. Garibaldi Macerata Introduction It is an innovative system of water distribution of urban water supply, thanks to a microfiltration device, removes the taste and odor of chlorine and any micro particles in suspension without removing the precious minerals. The system allows all citizens to have quality water, still or sparkling, 5 euro cent per liter, with a considerable saving compared to that in the bottle. Figure #1 Analysis of Water This water-distribution fountain is designed to use the municipal water filtered in order to purify the excessive presence of substances harmful to health, such as chlorine, calcium and arsenic, all suspended micro particles present and flavor chlorine typical "tap water". In addition, distributed water is refrigerated, thus the consumer can use it immediately even in the hottest months of the year. The water of the fountain undergoes the removal of arsenic, the effect of water softeners and reverse osmosis process in order to lower the concentration of minerals in the water. Figure #3 How Saving Water and Saving Energy The Public fountain in the project affects Saving Water and Energy Saving by limiting the costs of waste disposal and reuse of water in the municipal water supply of Corridonia. Use of public water source allows to obtain even larger environmental benefits, in fact it drastically reduces the use of plastic bottles for mineral water which represent a significant portion of municipal waste. In addition, for the production and the transport of plastic bottles, resources are wasted and it emits a large amount of greenhouse gases. Making a hypothesis dispensing of 200, 000 liters per year, thanks to a source of public water will prevent the use of more than 130, 000 bottles also to disposal of 4 tons of plastic, in addition to fuel savings for the transport of oil and for the production, with a total reduction of 17 tonnes of CO 2.
