Saved! Ephesians 2: 1 -10
Being Saved Implies Being Lost l Lost in sin, worthy of death (Rom. 6: 23) ØDeath is the penalty for sin (Eph. 2: 1) ØA result of our actions: l “You formerly walked according to the course of this world” (Eph. 2: 2) l “We too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest” (Eph. 2: 3) l We got ourselves in this fix and cannot get ourselves out of it (Rom. 5: 6)
God’s Love Toward Us While We Were In Sin l Described as “great love with which He loved us” (Eph. 2: 4) l So great He gave His Son (Jn. 3: 16) l Who we are is not the key. Who God is is the key (1 Jn. 4: 9 -10)
God Is Full Of Mercy And Grace l Described ØIn mercy (Eph. 2: 4). Not punishing. ØIn grace (Eph. 2: 7). By providing blessing. l God’s mercy & grace are behind Jesus pay- ing the price of salvation (1 Peter 1: 18 -19) l God’s promise is that we will: ØBe “made us alive together with Christ” (Eph. 2: 5) ØBe “raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the Heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2: 6)
Accomplished Through Faith l Faith is important in all aspects of spiritual matters ØCannot please God without it (Heb. 11: 6) ØMercy and grace do not come without it (Eph. 2: 8) l This faith is the faith revealed in the New Testament ØA way of life (Rom. 1: 17) ØA living, not dead, faith (James 2: 20, 26)
l Our salvation depends upon our obedience through faith (Heb. 5: 9) l We “are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Eph. 2: 10 a) ØNot our works (cf. Eph. 2: 9), but God’s works Ø“We would walk in them” (good works) (Eph. 2: 10 b)
