WHAT IS FUEL? • A fuel is any material that can be made to react with other substances so that it releases energy as heat energy or to be used for work. • The heat energy released by reactions of fuels is converted into mechanical energy via a heat engine. • Fuels are contrasted with other substances or devices storing potential energy, such as those that directly release electrical energy.

WHY SHOULD WE SAVE FUEL? • Fuel is a natural resource that produces useful energy when it undergoes a chemical or nuclear reaction. • We all know fuel is not man made and it occurs only naturally so its judicious use is much more needed not for today but for future generation too. • We do not need fuel only to run our vehicles but is needed to run our life and a better environment too.

HOW IS FUEL CURRENTLY BEING USED? • Fuel is currently used in cars, other transportation automobiles , cooking, mechanical works etc. • It is also used in electrical plants and water dams.

WASTAGE OF FUEL • In today’s world fuel is constantly being used. Especially in cars; although we know that we need cars in our everyday life, but have we ever noticed how much fuel is wasted in a small car trip? • A small car trip burns about 1 litre of fuel! A traffic jam wastes 40, 000 litres of fuel approximately. • If we don’t do something ; then soon we won’t have any fuel left.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SAVE FUEL; SOME OF THEM ARE: 1. Avoid Long Idling for long periods of time, whether at a railroad crossing or pulling off the road to make a cell phone call, consumes gas that could be saved by simply turning off the engine. 2. Clean Out the Trunk and Eliminate Unnecessary Weight Vehicles get much better mileage when they’re not loaded with unnecessary weight. Every 200 pounds of additional weight trims one mile off fuel efficiency.

3. Don’t Buy Premium Fuel Resist the urge to buy higher-octane gas for “premium”

3. Don’t Buy Premium Fuel Resist the urge to buy higher-octane gas for “premium” performance, unless the vehicle requires it. 4. Encourage Drivers to Observe Posted Speed Limits This tip may save a life as well as fuel. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates a 10% to 15% improvement in fuel economy by driving 55 mph instead of 65 mph. 5. Use Air Conditioning Sparingly Use the air conditioner only when needed. The air conditioner puts extra load on the engine, forcing more fuel to be used. 6. Use lower gears while driving uphill When climbing a hill, change to a lower gear to avoid the engine struggling to give enough power. The engine is already working hard to overcome gravity. Pushing it harder by stepping on the gas is simply a waste of fuel.

8. Water Heating water is a substantial source of home energy use. Ascertain your water heater's capabilities, and check that the temperature isn't set higher than necessary. While 140 degrees Fahrenheit is a standard default setting on many models, 120 degrees or below may be all the heat you need. 9. In the Kitchen You can also save fuel in the kitchen by cooking efficiently. Use the smallest-size pot you can for the food you're preparing. Instead of a standard full-size oven, try using a toaster oven or stove top when preparing smaller meals. 10. Don’t drive with the window wide open, We should not drive with the window open as especially at high speeds. This causes drag, which causes fuel consumption to go up. .
