Tier 1 § Whole group instruction, starting first day of school. § Students are identified through AIP process or teachers professional judgement. § Teacher provides professional teaching strategies: § Pre/First Teach § Sheltered Instructions § Differentiated Instructions § Forms for SAT § R 1 – Teacher Guide Completed § 1 intervention § 6 weeks monitoring § R 1 - Behavior Only § 1 Week of Monitoring § Every teacher monitors § Focus on ONE BEHAVIOR – safety priority. § Vocabulary Terms § AIP – Academic Improvement Plan § Pre/First Teach – Pre teaching skills needed for upcoming lessons, this gives students current prior knowledge as you teach a lesson for the first time. § Sheltered Instructions - to provide access to mainstream, grade-level content, and. to promote the development of English language proficiency. § Differentiated Instructions - “ensuring that what a student learns, how he or she learns it, and how the student demonstrates what he or she has learned is a match for that student’s readiness level, interests, and preferred mode of learning. ” Teachers can differentiate through four ways: 1) through content, 2) process, 3) product, and 4) learning environment based on the individual learner.
Tier II § What is Tier 2 (SAT Begins): § Small Group Instructions – 12: 1, 8: 1, 6: 1, 4: 1, 2: 1, 1: 1 § Students should be taught the lesson in a different way – It didn’t work the first time so why not try something else? § Tier 2 classes should contain students with a SAT Packet. § Progress monitoring: § 1 interventions § lasting 8 weeks § with 4 data points. § Tier 2 never stops until placed in Sp. Ed. or exited from SAT. § If exited from Sp. Ed. then student is placed back in Tier 2. § Additional 90 -120 minutes per week § Small Group § 20 minutes everyday for elementary § 20 minutes at least 3 times a week for secondary § Research Based Curriculum § If students are in pull outs or strategy classes this makes up your Tier II minutes.
Gifted Procedures and Forms § New Procedures § All gifted referral students must complete 6 weeks of Tier 1 interventions. § At the first SAT meeting the team will determine if student is a strong candidate for the pre-screener. § If Yes – the Gifted Teacher gives the prescreener at the school site. The SAT Chair will have 15 days to turn in file to the Diagnostic Center or else screener will be voided. § If No – then the student will be placed on Tier II interventions or exited from SAT. If in Tier II, these interventions are to enrich the students current curriculum. § All EL students referred for gifted will go through the six weeks of Tier I and the SAT team will meet. However, there is NO pre-screener for these students. SAT Chairs will send in files. § Pre-Screener § Students must pass at the 90 percentile or higher in order to move onto a full evaluation. § If student fail the screener they are sent back to the SAT team where the team will decide if Tier 2 is need or if the student should be exited. § There are no WINDOWS this year – you can turn in a packet at anytime of the year. § Principals need to supply Heather Dadey with how many computers they have for gifted screening, where located, and what type.
Language Screener – New Procedures § Kindergarten & 1 st Grade Referrals § Behavior Referrals § All Kindergarten and 1 st grade referrals require a Language Screener. § SAT Chair needs to contact schools SLP and let them know you have a K or 1 st grade referral that needs a screener. § You do need parent consent to give the screener. § All behavior referrals require a Language Screener. § SAT Chair needs to contact schools SLP and let them know you have a behavior referral that needs a screener. § You do need parent consent to give the screener. If Student passes the Language Screener: • Obtain copy of screener for the file • No other actions needed If Student doesn’t pass the Language Screener: • Obtain copy of screener for the file • Proceed with Tier II Language Intervention • SAT Chair needs to work with SLP to obtain those Tier II interventions. • Classroom teacher is responsible for providing Tier II interventions.
FBA_BIP Procedures and Forms Behavior is impeding Academics Students Behavior Academics are not affected by behavior Complete Tier 2 BIP for Behavior Complete FBA/BIP. Put Tier 2 Interventions in place for student. Classroom Management Behavior Issues Completer Tier 2 for Academic area of concern Monitor and redefine Tier 2 interventions on BIP until behavior is no longer a issue. Behavioral Referral Only Complete Tier 2 BIP for Behavior Emotional Distributed Behavior If students are establishing E. D. behaviors refer to Health and Wellness team along with sending SAT file for Special Education Testing. Can you submit a file only for behavior? Should all behavior referrals be submitted for a full SP. ED. Evaluation?
