WHAT IS TIER 1 • Tier 1 is: • Whole group instruction, starting first day of school. • Students are identified through AIP process or teachers professional judgement. • Teacher provides professional teaching strategies: • Pre/First Teach • Sheltered Instructions • Differentiated Instructions • Forms for SAT • T 1 – Teacher Guide Completed • 1 intervention • 6 weeks monitoring • R 4 e- Behavior Only • 1 Week of Monitoring • Every teacher monitors • Focus on ONE BEHAVIOR – safety priority. • Vocabulary Terms • AIP – Academic Improvement Plan • Pre/First Teach – Pre teaching skills needed for upcoming lessons, this gives students current prior knowledge as you teach a lesson for the first time. • Sheltered Instructions - to provide access to mainstream, grade-level content, and. to promote the development of English language proficiency. • Differentiated Instructions - “ensuring that what a student learns, how he or she learns it, and how the student demonstrates what he or she has learned is a match for that student’s readiness level, interests, and preferred mode of learning. ” Teachers can differentiate through four ways: 1) through content, 2) process, 3) product, and 4) learning environment based on the individual learner.
WHAT IS TIER 2 • What is Tier 2 (SAT Begins): • Small Group Instructions – 12: 1, 8: 1, 6: 1, 4: 1, 2: 1, 1: 1 • Students should be taught the lesson in a different way – It didn’t work the first time so why not try something else? • Tier 2 classes should contain students with a SAT Packet. • Progress monitoring: • 2 interventions • lasting 6 weeks • with 3 data points. • Additional 90 -120 minutes per week • Tier 2 never stops until placed in Sp. Ed. or exited from SAT. • If exited from Sp. Ed. then student is placed back in Tier 2.
PURPOSE OF SAT TEAM • The Purpose of SAT is: • To keep students in their Regular Education classes. • To provide Tier 2 Interventions within their regular class time or within a Tier 2 classroom. • When is a SAT Meeting held: • SAT meetings should be held after school or SAT meetings should be held during a designated time set by admin. • SAT meetings are not Parent/Student Led Conferences, where only one teacher and the parent is present. • SAT meetings should occur every 6 -7 weeks and the meeting notification should be sent out ten days in advance in order for parents to attend. • Who Attends a SAT Meeting: • • • SAT Chair Referring Teacher Core Subject Teachers IC Counselor Nurse Admin Health and Wellness Parents Student
2015 _16 COMMON ISSUES • Student Health Record (R 2) – Prior to turning in T 1 Form • Special Education Nursing Summary- Prior to turning in SAT file for Special Education Eval.
2015_16 COMMON ISSUES • Speech and Language begins at Tier 2. • Step 5 on T 1 Guide Teacher needs to complete the R 7 d 1 and R 7 d 2 for Speech and Language. • On the R 7 d 1 and R 7 d 2 the teacher will complete only from the Name through Summary of Concern. • The SLP will be giving Tier 2 interventions at the first SAT meeting.

Intervention 1 John Valdez completed 6 weeks of a Tier 2 intervention starting on 09/12/16 ending on 10/17/2016 Mr. Bob provided Chunking the Text using Common Core Standards (i. e. Fundations, Read 180, Pearson, DIBELS, Math Navigator) assessed with Weekly Bell Ringers. Progress monitoring results are as follows (record as %, words/letters/sounds per min. ): Week 2 50%, Week 4 40%, Week 6 60%. John Valdez is not making adequate gains using the Tier 2 intervention. Intervention 1 John Valdez completed 6 weeks of a Tier 2 intervention starting on 09/12/16 ending on 10/17/2016 Mr. Bob provided Read 180 Software using Read 180 (i. e. BEHAVIOR REFERRALS Steps to follow to determine correct path for Behavioral referral for Sp. Ed. Steps to follow to fulfill Tier 2 requirements Complete FBA/BIP. Put Tier 2 Interventions in place for student. Classroom Management Behavior Issues Complete Tier 2 BIP for Behavior Monitor and redefine Tier 2 interventions on BIP until behavior is no longer a issue. Reflected on student determined academics are affected by behavior Completer Tier 2 for Academic area of concern Behavioral Referral Only Students Behavior Reflected on student determined academics are not affected by behavior Complete Tier 2 BIP for Behavior Emotional Distributed Behavior If students are establishing E. D. behaviors refer to Health and Wellness team along with sending SAT file for Special Education Testing.
FORMS APS INTRANET – CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTIONS – SAT 2016_17 • T 1 – Teacher Guide • This is to be completed by classroom teacher. • Teacher should have completed at least 6 weeks of Tier 1 interventions. This process will be recorded on the T 1 form. • Once completed and appropriate materials attached SAT chair can schedule SAT meeting.

Please place corrected information on top of the R 1 form.
