The Battle of Saratoga §The British were marching south from Canada in hopes to cut off New England from the other colonies. § General Burgoyne led 6, 000 Redcoats and traveled with a lot of extra baggage through, mountainous terrain. § September 19, 1777 American Generals Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold led a force that stopped the British at Saratoga, NY.
§October 17, 1777 Burgoyne surrendered 5, 700 Redcoats. British losses were heavy. Results: 1. Americans gained a lot of confidence! 2. France finally recognized the U. S. Government and declared war on Great Britain. 3. The Americans were now favored to win the war! Carry my Stuff!!!

Valley Forge, Pennsylvania v During the Winter of 1777 -1778 General Washington camped his army northwest of Philadelphia in the town of Valley Forge. v There was a severe lack of food and basic supplies. v 2, 898 soldiers were barefoot. v Washington would not seize food from nearby farmers. Why?
v. The soldiers who did not leave were strengthened by the training of Friedrich Von Steuben. You better @#$ march! v After many pleas and demands to the Continental Congress, supplies finally arrived in March and April of 1778.
It is widely believed that the suffering taken on by the American soldiers actually made them stronger. Suffering and Adversity makes a person stronger!
