SARAH DOUGHERTY Seton Hall University Class of 2015 College of Education and Human Services Member of the Seton Hall Women’s Swim Team
SETON HALL UNIVERSITY v Class of 2015 v 4+2 Elementary/Special Education Major with a Concentration in Speech-Language Pathology v Member of the Seton Hall Women’s Swim Team v I chose to attend Seton Hall University because it is a Catholic University, with a Speech-Language Pathology major and a Division I swim team. I loved the small school feel, and the beautiful campus. I immediately felt at home here at Seton Hall.
MY ROOTS v I was born and raised in the Albany, NY area. v I was homeschooled from Pre-School through 12 th grade. v I have been swimming competitively since I was six years old. v My Mom and Grandma taught me how to cook when I was very young, and I now love to cook and bake - anything and everything.
FAMILY v At home, I live with my mom, dad, sisters and brother. v My mom is a stay-at-home mom, however, she is a certified occupational therapist. My dad is a small business owner. v I am the oldest of four children. v My family lives on a quiet country road, with a lot of surrounding land to enjoy.
THE FUTURE v When I graduate from Seton Hall, I will have an undergraduate degree in Elementary and Special Education, as well as an undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies, with a minor in Spanish. I will also have a graduate degree in Speech. Language Pathology. v I hope to work as a Speech-Language Pathologist after I finish college. v I would love to pursue a doctorate degree in the future. v I hope to marry and raise a family someday.
ROAD BLOCKS v One of the greatest roadblocks in my academic life will always be money. I do not come from a wealthy family, in fact my family cannot afford to pay for me to attend college. However, I have discovered that a way to overcome this roadblock is to work hard to maintain excellent grades in school in order to earn scholarships.
FUN TIMES v Swimming is a huge part of my life that consumes most of my free time. It has taught me the value of hard work and perseverance in life. v I also enjoy running, as it is a great stress-reliever from swimming. v I love to cook and especially to bake, something I miss very much while living in college dorms. v I love TV shows like Law and Order SVU, Criminal Minds and White Collar. v Ever since I was fourteen years old, I have always had after-school jobs, and I truly appreciate the value of working and having a job. The sense of responsibility and accomplishment that having a job provides is irreplaceable.
