SANITATION WORKERS PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Introduction Personal protective equipment (PPE) is protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garments or equipment designed to protect the wearer's body from injury or infection. The hazards addressed by safety equipment include physical, electrical, heat, chemicals, biohazards, and airborne particulate matter.

SAFETY GEAR FOR MSW LANDFILLING WORKERS safety boots (always to be used while working outside the buildings); reflective vests (always to be used while working outside the buildings); safety helmets (to be used in case of risk of head injuries, e. g. , during construction, loading or unloading activities, while operating machinery, etc. ); gloves (to be used in case of risk of hand injuries, e. g. , during loading or unloading, or maintenance activities);

The landfill management has to strictly enforce the use of personal protection equipment. First Aid The landfill workers should be trained in first aid, so that they themselves can properly provide first aid. Considering the specific conditions at a sanitary landfill, it is strongly recommended that landfill staff working on a regular basis be trained on first aid. SAFETY GEAR FOR BIO MEDICAL WASTE PROCESSING WORKERS ü Safety gears essential – especially hand gloves and face masks. ü Necessary equipment and safety gears such as respirators, face shields, dust masks, boot covers, impervious clothing etc. for any emergency situation (such as, spill) should be readily available when needed. ü Cover all cuts, abrasions, and other areas of non-intact skin while on duty. ü Never handle any biomedical waste with bare hands.
SOCIAL SECURITY TO SANITATION WORKERS
Social security is "any government system that provides monetary assistance to people with an inadequate or no income" Four basic categories of Social Security benefits are paid based upon the record of your earnings: retirement, disability, dependents, and survivors benefits. Wages being paid to the Safai Karamacharis working in the ULBs on outsourcing basis: Minimum wage fixed - Rs. 12, 000/- pm ESI contribution by the employer (3. 25%) - Rs. 390/- pm EPF contribution by the employer (13%) - Rs. 1, 560/- pm Occupational Health Allowance - Rs. 6, 000/- pm Conduct of medical checkups and health camps, providing Health Insurance.
o Occupational Health Allowance is being paid to the outsourced Safai Karamcharis. o Upgradation of their skills. Compassionate appointments are being provided to the dependents of the deceased Safai Karamcharis. As per the Rules in force, all pensionary benefits are being paid to the retired Safai Karamcharis.
Leave facilities are being provided to the regular and outsourced Safai Karamcharis as per their eligibility. Health Cards & Medical Reimbursement are being provided to the regular Safai Karamcharis and ESI facility is being provided to the outsourced Safai Karamcharis. Action being taken for allotment of houses to the Safai Karamcharis under PMAY Scheme.
A State Level Committee for Women Welfare in O/o C&DMA, Guntur was constituted by including Women Safai Karmacharies working in the ULBs as members and the Additional Director, O/o C&DMA as presiding officer. Instructions issued to the all Municipal Commissioners to constitute an Internal Complaints Committee (Women’s’ protection cell) in the ULBs to curtail harassment on women workers working in the ULBs.
