Being Prepared P. E School PE kit is brought into school on a Monday and taken home on a Friday. Please label all clothing your child brings to school. � Top Tip – Spend the next couple of weeks letting your child have a go at getting changed themselves at home. (delete if not appropriate) Other � Reading records need to be in school everyday. � Ensure your child is coming to school in the correct uniform. �

Supporting your child at home Reading Records � In KS 1 your child needs to read to you daily and this must be recorded in the reading record. � In KS 2 your child needs to read to you at least three times a week and this must be recorded in the reading record. Your child should also be encouraged to record their own reading in the book. � It is also important that you provide opportunities to read to your child – even in Year 6! � To support your child you will be provided you with material to use with your child at home.

Homework � Bug Club ◦ Bug club is an online resource that will support your child in reading, phonics and spelling. ◦ Your child will have been provided with a log in sticker in the reading record. If you have any queries ask class teacher. ◦ Bug Club is monitored by the class teacher and children will only move on in their learning if they use it. We also use it to support our assessments of your child. � Abacus ◦ Abacus is an online tool and resource that supports your child’s learning in Maths ◦ This has an identical log on to Bug Club ◦ Abacus is monitored by the class teacher and children will only move on in their learning if they use it. We also use it to support our assessments of your child.

Homework Interactive Resources � This is a Maths resource that supports your child and gives opportunities to play interactive Maths games. � http: //interactive-resources. co. uk � Your child will have been provided with a log in that they can use. � This will also be available through the school website.

Additional Homework We are currently reviewing the use of homework books and providing children with homework through worksheets or activities. Our new approach to homework will be launched after October half term to ensure it is effective and in line with the new curriculum. Meanwhile you can support your child through: � Learning times tables � Learning to tell the time � Reading as stated previously

Spelling & Phonics The school is having a whole school focus on spellings and phonics this academic year. 1. Your child should be learning at home the high frequency words (found in the back of the reading record). If you believe they can spell and understand the word please tick in the reading record. 2. In EYFS and KS 1 your child will be provided with the sounds that they are focussing on that week. 3. KS 2 will be provided with the high frequency words they should know and use. If you believe they can spell and understand the word please tick on the sheet. We will be informing you of any changes made in line with the new curriculum in future parent workshops

Communication with staff We are an open door school, therefore, we welcome parents coming to discuss positives and issues with the class teacher. If you have a concern or wish to discuss something one to one with the teacher, please follow the procedure below: 1. If you wish to speak to the teacher in the morning, please go to the school office 2. If you wish to speak to the teacher at the end of the day and they are available then talk to them. However, you may need to go to the office to book an appointment. 3. We also have parent reps who we use to help with communication about specific activities or events. You will be emailed their details.

Communication with staff If your concerns raised are not acted upon or acknowledged please speak to the office and book and appointment with either Mr Kirkham or Miss Hughlock. It is vital that we work together to ensure that your child is happy, safe and learning.

Safeguarding The school has a legal responsibility to ensure pupils are safe; emotionally, mentally and physically. Pupils need to feel safe and happy at all times. If we have a concern regarding the safeguarding of your child either the class teacher, deputy headteacher or headteacher will speak to you confidentially. Within a lot of circumstances children may something or display something of concern which is perfectly innocent. However, these concerns have to be discussed with you. Where we feel instances are more serious, then we have the legal obligation to contact children’s services. This is something they will then act upon accordingly. As part of the Sandfield community you as parents also have the right to disclose information that may be of concern to you. If you are concern or worried about another child in school, please speak to the school office to arrange a time to speak to Mr Kirkham or Miss Hughlock. We want to ensure pupils are happy, safe and enjoying learning. For this to work we need to work together.

Supporting the school School is a very exciting and busy place to be and we want the children to gain the best possible education and experience. For this to happen we also need your help. The class teacher will get in touch with the class rep (parent) if any support specific to that class is needed. If you offer support with the class your child is in, it is with the understanding that the class teacher guides you with the help you give.

Supporting the school There are many other areas of the school that needs your support. For example; library, after -school clubs, gardening, helping with school PTA events and helping to keep the school organised and tidy. Over this half term we will be communicating with parents to ask for help. If you are able to offer your support across the school please contact the school office.

Parent Workshops this term As we are following the new National Curriculum we will be providing a series of parent workshops to give you a better understanding of the curriculum. These will take place in the school hall. If you wish to attend please see the school office. � Tuesday 29 th September – English workshop for Reception � Wednesday 30 th September – New Curriculum Maths Workshop � Tuesday 6 th October – Maths Workshop for Reception � Wednesday 7 th October – New Curriculum English Workshop � Wednesday 21 st October – Assessment in the New Curriculum. � Please use the school website calendar or google calendar to check times.
