Background • Centrate from biosolids dewatering at SJVRWRF is currently returned to the secondary process without equalization impairing nutrient treatment and removal • In August 2018, the Board awarded a contract to Kennedy/Jenks Consultants (KJ) for the engineering design of the SJVRWRF Centrate Equalization Project 2 | emwd. org
Background (continued) • Staff is also advancing the SJVRWRF Plant 1 Rehabilitation project • Additional modifications to the SJVRWRF Centrate Equalization Project are now needed to address project cost saving measures being implemented under the Plant 1 rehabilitation project • The impact to the centrate equalization project includes added yard piping and flow measurement equipment to return centrate to both Plants 1 and 2 3 | emwd. org
Consultant’s Scope of Work KJ proposes to perform design revisions as follows: • • Additional yard piping and flow measurement equipment Addition of chemical metering system to mitigate struvite formation. Staff negotiated a fee in the amount of $54, 705 to address the added scope of services. KJ was competitively selected for this project. They are providing a high level of service. 4 | emwd. org

Recommendation Approve and authorize Execution by the General Manager, or his designee, to execute an amendment to the engineering services agreement with Kennedy/Jenks Consultants in an amount of $54, 705 for the design of the SJVRWRF Centrate Equalization Project; bringing the total agreement to an amount of $298, 705; and additional appropriation of $132, 609 bringing the total project cost to an amount of $441, 905. 6 | emwd. org
