Conclusions • It may be more cost effective and for the better of the mental health and fatigue of the sheriffs to hire more sheriffs of each variety. • Decreasing over time worked and increasing workers may have an adverse effect financially for those in the department who are utilizing the current offerings of unrestricted overtime. • It would however have a positive effect on diversity in the force by increasing those employed, increasing off hours time to help with fatigue and mental recuperation of the regular stresses associated with law enforcement, and without having to increase budget for the department. • This may not need to be a removal of all Overtime hours but, as some other law enforcement departments have done, limit the Overtime hours allowed. • Unfortunately due to the “Other Pay” and “Benefits” fields not be defined in the data set given, I’m unable to draw any further conclusions but some limits may also be put in place in those areas to inhibit exorbitant spending on the department’s part.
