COURSES AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 35 level 3 courses on offer (A levels, BTECs and applied) Sixth form entry: 1. Five grade 5’s minimum to study all A level courses 2. Five grade 5’s minimum to study a combination of A level courses and vocational courses (BTEC’s and applied L 3 courses) Each subject has their own entry requirement and Average Point Score (APS) linked to them for guidance (see page 8 and 9 in handbook)
The GCSE Average Points Score (APS) • ALL of your son/daughters GCSE grades count towards the GCSE Average Points Score (APS) • All GCSE grades achieved are added together and divided by the total number to give an APS. • The APS acts as a guide to the students skill and knowledge level. • Every course in the sixth form has an APS guideline as an entry requirements alongside the grade requirements. • The higher the grades achieved in ALL GCSE courses, the higher the APS will be, giving access to more courses in the sixth form. • A common statement from students is that a certain course at GCSE isn't important to them. E. g “Geography at GCSE doesn’t matter as I don’t want to study that at A Level”. BUT – the grade will impact on the APS and could restrict your entry to certain courses.
