Salvation Has Come Luke 19: 1 -10
What’s in a gift?
What’s in a gift? A gift contains a message
What a gift might say… A gift card says, “I don’t know you well enough” or “I was too lazy to look around. ”
What a gift might say… A gym membership says, “I think you could stand to lose some weight. ”
What a gift might say… A self-help book suggests, “I think you have some problems that you need to work out. ”
What a gift might say… A cookbook suggests, “You could stand to improve in the kitchen. ”
What a gift might say… The $5. 99 Wal-Mart Valentines Basket says, “I am cheap” “I forget Valentine’s Day until the last minute (again)” “I don’t really value you that much. ”
The Church is… “US”
WE are the church and God wants to build something in us and through us that is greater than any building.
Understand… God living in a building is God in a box that we take out once a week.
Understand… And God in a Sunday box is way too small to handle my weekly cares.
What was Jesus’ Mission?
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. Luke 19: 1 -2
He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. Luke 19: 3 -4
When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today. ” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. Luke 19: 5 -6
All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner. ’” Luke 19: 7
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount. ” Luke 19: 8
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. ” Luke 19: 9 -10
Do you see where Zacchaeus is?
“He wants to see who Jesus is. ” Luke 19: 3
Sometimes the crowd will hinder us from seeing Jesus.
We all must face the crowd to get to Jesus
