The Ship

The ship (discussion) Dylan - I think this painting represents how the ship is made (by mankind) and is represented as a person as a ship.

The Ship (discussion) TJ TJ - I think this painting is about a human that has been fused with a ship as you can see in the painting. Also I think the person-ship is a female or a part human-ship skeleton down at the waist.

The Ship (discussion) Jordan R. - I think this image is about slaves who were forced row huge ships in vast numbers. I think that the man carrying the sail represents the force and strength it took to row the ship. I also think that the slave in the picture is a metaphor for what the slave does for the ship. So basically, without the slaves, the ship would be useless.

The Ship (discussion) Antonio - I think the painting represents pain. Whoever was carrying the ship, it looks like it has become part of him because he has been carrying it for too long.

The Persistence of Memory

The Persistence of Memory (discussion) T. J. - I think this painting is about a lot of melting clocks, and it’s like over the temperature of melting metal.

The Persistence of Memory (discussion) Antonio- since Salvador Dali was a drug addict, maybe the painting represents a different dimension, or it could be how he sees the world with his memory.

The Persistence of Memory (discussion) Jordan R. Jordan- I think the clocks either represent the time it took to make what they’re representing in the painting or maybe the artist is trying to say that time revolves around everything.

The Persistence of Memory (discussion) Dylan- I think in the image, the melting clocks could symbolize wasting away with time. I say that because the clocks seem to be melting so that might be an image to suggest a metaphor for time wasting away.

Atavistic Vestiges after the Rain

Atavistic Vestiges after the Rain (discussion) Dylan- I think the picture could be a distorted beach, and he is walking with a child in this picture.

Atavistic Vestiges after the Rain (discussion) T. J. • TJ- I think the painting is about a freaky beach and a demented block of iron type of thing and that it’s huge.

Atavistic Vestiges after the Rain (discussion) Jordan R. Jordan- I think this painting was meant to be an illusion to the viewer.

Atavistic Vestiges after the Rain (discussion) Antonio- in the painting, I think a father is showing his son a demented dead whale after the rain is over. I say this because the father seems to be showing the son something and they are both gazing up at the whale. It looks as if the father brought the boy there specifically to show him something. I’d like to add that the father and son figure is a repeated theme in Dali’s work.

The Entrepreneur

The Entrepreneur (discussion) Dylan- I think this could be an image of Salvador Dali’s wife. I think this because a wife might be an important person in his life so he might want to paint her.

The Entrepreneur (discussion) T. J. TJ- I think this painting is about a woman who could be Salvador Dali’s wife, so I also agree with Dylan. It might be his wife, but it also could be another woman he likes or is interested in.

The Entrepreneur (discussion) Jordan R. Jordan- I think this painting is about a woman who is one with the universe.

The Entrepreneur (discussion) Antonio- I think the painting represents a woman reaching for something.

The Temptation of St. Anthony, c. 1946

The Temptation of St. Anthony, c. 1946 (discussion) TJ TJ- I think the painting is about a zoo and some animals escaping from its desert land.

The Temptation of St. Anthony, c. 1946 (discussion) Dylan- I think this is an image of Salvador Dali’s church he went to as a child as he imagines it now.

The Temptation of St. Anthony, c. 1946 (discussion) Jordan- I think this painting has something to do with God because the man in the picture is holding a crucifix.

The Temptation of St. Anthony, c. 1946 (discussion) Antonio- I think the man in the lower left corner is waiting for the demented horses and the chariot to come closer to him so he can repel it with the cross in his hand.
