Safety Talk - Snakes & Snake Bite Sheet 2 – Avoiding snakes Take extra care during summer and spring when snakes are out. Take care when moving materials stored on the ground as snakes may be living under them. Snakes are shy creatures and will try to keep out of your way. Take care in long grass, undergrowth, rocky areas and near old logs. Making plenty of noise will scare snakes away. Wearing strong boots & thick clothing will protect you from snakebite. Safety Talk - Snakes & Snake Bite Sheet 4 – Treating snake bite Send for a doctor or transport the patient to a hospital in a calm and safe manner. Collect the snake if it is dead so it can be identified. Keep the patient still and reassure them. Apply a firm, broad bandage to the bitten area and along the limb. Keep the limb still by applying a splint. TRAINING NATIONAL

You can treat snake bite by: · applying a broad bandage to the wound; · keeping the patient and the limb still; · identifying the snake; and · seeking medical aid as quickly as possible. TRAINING NATIONAL You can avoid snakes by: · taking extra care in summer and spring when snakes are out; · remembering snakes are shy and will try to keep out of your way; · making nose and keeping watch when in areas they inhabit; · wearing strong boots and thick clothing; and · taking care when moving materials which have been stored on the ground.
