Report to Instructor Please report any and all accidents to your Instructor If something doesn’t sound or work right, REPORT it to your Instructor If you are not feeling well tell your Instructor.

Keep all hand tools sharp, clean, and in safe working order.

Use tools only for use intended.

Report any defective tools, machines, or other equipment to instructor.

Keep tools picked up and stored properly when not in use.

Keep materials and supplies safely stacked or stored in proper places.

Why Eye and Face Protection is Important - Thousands of people are blinded each year from work related eye injuries. Injuries that could have been prevented, if only people would have used eye or face protection.

Eye Protection Safety Glasses With Side shields MUST meet Z-87

Face Shields -Provide added protection for your eyes -Protect face and neck from particles and sparks -Shaded face shields protect your eyes and face from the light of the Oxy-fuel flame -Polycarbonate face shields are impact resistant Clear or shaded are for your protection

Hearing protection Teacher will provide ear plugs for you to use in the shop as needed

Foot wear -Tennis or gym shoes are NOT Recommended for use in the weld shop. They do not provide enough protection for your feet

-Leather boot type shoes are the best. But we will do the best we can

Arc protection A welder wears protective eyewear to shield his eyes from the rays produced by a welding arc.

The electric arc emits large amounts of ultra violet and infra-red rays. Both types of rays are invisible to the naked eye just as the same type of rays emitted by the sun are invisible. However they both have the identical properties of causing sunburn on the human skin, except that the arc burns much more rapidly and deeply. Since these rays are produced very close to the operator they can cause very severe burns to the eyes in a short exposure time.

Welding helmets Shade 8 -12 will protect your eyes. Check for cracked or broken lenses before each use. If your eyes feel like sand is in them, you have some arc burn. Always use an approved helmet while you are arc welding. Say ”cover” to signal you are ready to strike an arc.

EYE & FACE PROTECTION Eye injuries at grinders have demonstrated that safety glasses alone are insufficient protection. ALWAYS wear a face shield when using a grinder.

Keep your mind on the job when using power equipment; avoid conversation with other students.

Grinder safety Wear a face shield for added protection Don’t bother someone that is operating any of the equipment, let them concentrate on what they are doing.

PRECAUTIONS The maximum RPM rating of each abrasive wheel must be compatible with the RPM rating of the grinder motor.

Never grind PRECAUTIONS on the sides on the wheels The side of a wheel should not be used for grinding, unless it is a special type of wheel designed for that purpose. Defective abrasive wheels (cracked, broken, out of balance) should not be used.

Keep all guards and safety devices in place.

ABRASIVE WHEEL SETUP • Grinding wheels should be equipped with a work rest, also referred to as a tool rest, that holds the work firmly. • The work rest must be kept adjusted close to the wheel with a maximum opening of 1/8” to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest.

Grinding wheels must. SETUP ABRASIVE WHEEL also have an adjustable tongue guard. The tongue guard must be adjusted to within 1/4" of the wheel. Do not operate the grinder without safety shields in place

Make sure all guards and barriers in place and adjusted properly before staring a machine tool.
