Safe. Tac. Mag Safe Tactical Magazine Patent Pending
Sgt Seth M. Algrim Died: October 30, 2006
Sgt. Seth M. Algrim, assigned to the 1 st Reconnaissance Battalion, died at about 10 p. m. from gunshot wounds sustained during an urban combat training exercise. The gun shot came from another Marine in his platoon. That Marine thought his rifle was shooting non-lethal ammunition (blanks). He did not know there were live rounds in his magazine.
Safety procedures using live ammunition include: Exercises designed to prevent accidental injuries and deaths Ammunition checks before and after exercises Supervision by senior Marines called safety officers during live-fire ranges. HOWEVER… Even with these safety procedures in place, live ammunition still found its way onto a range where it was not supposed to be.
One day Marines and soldiers are on live ranges, using live ammo.
The next day, they are in urban training, pointing those same weapons with the same magazines at each other only with non-lethal ammunition
It is easy to mistake live ammo for blank ammo. The blank round and the live round both fit in the magazine that DOD and Military Forces use everyday, and they look and feel very similar.
Hundreds of members of the military & DOD are injured or killed by accidental fire during training exercises every year. These accidents are PREVENTABLE.
How can we prevent accidents like Sgt. Algrim’s death, and countless others, from happening in the future ?
We must make training safer and more efficient.
The Solution: The Safe Tactical Magazine
The Safe Tactical Magazine makes two simple changes to the military’s current magazines: 1) The inside of the is 1/8 th of an inch shorter (Live ammo will not fit into the training mag) 2) The outside of the magazine is RED to represent training (The color is a clear indication that there is no live ammo in the mag)
Current Mag VS. Training Mag
The Safe. Tac. Mag will look and feel just like the magazine the military, government agencies, and NATO forces already use for the M 4/M 16 service rifle… But because of the simple changes in COLOR & SIZE, the Safe. Tac. Mag is EFFECIENT and SAFE!
Due to the color of the Safe. Tac. Mag training magazine, safety officers and others on the range could look at this rifle and be assured that this rifle is shooting blank ammo. Also, because live ammo cannot fit into this magazine, the soldier, his counter parts, and the safety officers are safe could easily be sure that a live round is not in the Mag.
Added Bonus: Currently, blank rounds often jam because they don’t fit in the current magazine as well as live ammo does. Safe. Tac. Mag will fix this problem by the blank round being more snug in the Training Magazine
In conclusion…. These two simple adjustments change military training in a profound and necessary way. Training Injuries is now safer and more efficient. & deaths caused by live ammo in these training scenarios will be eliminated.
The Safe. Tac. Mag will SAVE LIVES. In loving memory of Sgt. Seth Algrim Semper Fi
