Why the Aerospace Industry Develops and Uses SAE Standards… • The Aerospace Industry is the most data (and standards) intensive industry requiring robust strong standards systems to support our data needs • SAE Standards form part of the product definition data used to define, manufacture, certify, operate and support aerospace products • SAE Standards have a defined mission: • Interoperability & interconnectivity • Mechanism for change • Reliability, repeatability, quality • Supply chain management • Safety and certification I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for manufacturers, airlines and suppliers to have internationally recognized standards, not only to cut the cost of stocks, but also for common practices with their consequential effects on aviation safety enhancement. Alain Garcia, Senior VP Engineering, AIRBUS World Aviation Congress, 2004, Reno, NV
