Introduction Saber and Conocer both mean “to know”. They are not used interchangeably. Both verbs have irregular “yo” forms.

Conjugating “saber” Yo sé. Tú sabes. Ud. sabe. Él sabe. Ella sabe. Nosotros sabemos Vosotros sabéis. Uds. saben. Ellos saben. Ellas saben.

Conjugating “conocer” Yo conozco. Tú conoces. Ud. conoce. Él conoce. Ella conoce. Nosotros conocemos. Vosotros conocéis. Uds. conocen. Ellos conocen. Ellas conocen.

Uses of “saber” Facts and information • I know that Raleigh is the capital of NC. • She knows that 10 x 10=100. Saber + infinitive = to know how to do something. • We know how to ride a bike. • My mom doesn’t know how to drive.

Uses of “conocer” To be familiar with a person, place, or thing. • Because I have live here for 4 years, I know Clinton. • Marisol knows President Obama.
