At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for in his father’s house. When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action. When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. ” Acts 7: 22 -29 NIV
Moses was Introduced to God by his Parents Ø Moses’ parents instilled faith in him • He grew up in the palace of Pharaoh’s daughter but his faith was nurtured by his own family – Exodus 2: 1 -10 • The convictions Moses had were instilled in him by his parents – Exodus 2: 5 -10; 2 Timothy 1: 5 -6
Moses was Introduced to God by his Parents Ø His faith led him to help God’s people • When Moses was forty he decided to visit his fellow Israelites – Acts 7: 23 -24; Exodus 2: 11 -14 • He felt that God was using him to rescue them – Acts 7: 25 • But in reality Moses was getting ahead of God! – Acts 7: 26 -29
“After forty years had passed, an angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to look more closely, he heard the Lord’s voice: ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. ’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look. Acts 7: 30 -32 NIV
Moses Encounters God at the Burning Bush Ø Moses went from being somebody to a nobody • • He fled from the palace of Pharaoh’s daughter to live in the desert of Midian – Exodus 2: 15 -25; Hebrews 11: 24 -26 He settled in Midian forty years and tended flocks – Exodus 3: 1
Moses Encounters God at the Burning Bush Ø God speaks to Moses out of the burning bush • • • The burning bush was to get his attention – Acts 7: 30 -32 God commissions Moses to deliver His people from Egyptian bondage – Exodus 3 – 4; Matthew 28: 18 -20 Moses made excuses but ultimately obeyed God’s call – Exodus 5 - 12
“He led them out of Egypt and did wonders and miraculous signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and forty years in the desert. ” Acts 7: 36 NIV
Moses is led by God to the Promised Land Ø Moses faced many trials in the desert • • The Egyptians came after them – Exodus 14: 5 -12 They were trapped at the Red Sea – Exodus 14: 13 -31 They had no water in the desert – Exodus 15: 22 -27; 17: 1 -7 They ran out of food on the journey. . . – Exodus 16: 1 -36
Moses is led by God to the Promised Land Ø God was with Moses every step of the way! • When God asks us to do something, He always gives us everything we need to achieve it! – Philippians 4: 13 • Moses may not have entered the promised land on earth, but we know he is now in the Promised Land in Heaven! - Deuteronomy 34: 1 -8
