Why Choose Dual Credit? Advantages of Dual Credit • Earn college credits while in high school and begin working towards a degree or career path. Undecided? Begin exploring majors early. • Students have more time to pursue a minor, additional majors, or coop/internship opportunities. • Dual credit students are Gateway students and have access to all college resources. • Students learn to navigate the college environment, working with their professors and peers. • On-campus or online classes offer scheduling flexibility. • Cost Savings – Dual credit classes are significantly less expensive.

Why Choose Dual Credit? Helpful Hints • COMMUNICATE! • Students must learn to advocate for themselves. Communication with professors, counselors, and advisors is vital for student success. • Time management is essential. Classes may only be 1 or 2 days a week. Even more important for online classes. • Dual credit students begin to build their college academic history and GPA. Poor performance could have negative effects on future opportunities.

Program Eligibility General Education Classes • To be eligible for general education dual credit classes with Gateway, students must: • First, meet any requirements set forth by their high school • Have an unweighted high school GPA of 2. 5 or higher • Meet college readiness benchmarks for English AND Reading for enrollment into all non-Math General Education courses. • Meet college readiness benchmark for the course-specific benchmark for Math courses. • Meet any additional course-specific pre-requisites • Students who have not taken the ACT may take placement exams at Gateway with permission of their high school. • Students must maintain a 2. 0 GPA average in their Gateway classes to continue to the next semester.

Program Eligibility Technical Education Classes • To be eligible for technical education dual credit classes with Gateway, students must: • First, meet any requirements set forth by their high school • Meet one of the following requirements: • Have an unweighted high school GPA of 2. 5 or higher, or; • Have an ACT Composite score of 16 or higher, or; • Have ACT Reading AND Math scores of 16 or higher • Meet any additional course-specific pre-requisites • Students who have not taken the ACT may take placement exams at Gateway with permission of their high school. • Students must maintain a 2. 0 GPA average in their Gateway classes to continue to the next semester.

Academic Support • Grade Information – Gateway only receives final grades • Students can obtain their current grades by checking their class account in Black. Board or contacting their professor • Academic or Attendance Concern Notifications • Notifications from instructors include: Missing assignments, attendance issues, falling behind, or in danger of failing the class. • Information regarding these concerns are sent to counselors. • Free tutoring is available to all dual credit students. • COMMUNICATE! – Students must communicate any concerns with their professors. Examples: Issues accessing class information, difficulty with the content, or concerns about missing class.

Program Costs • Dual Credit class tuition is considerably discounted. • One 3 -credit hour class at Gateway costs: $522 • That same class taken as dual credit only costs $173. 98 (2019 -20) Type Cost Tuition ~$58/credit hour (2019 -20) $TBD/credit hour (2020 -21) Textbooks $50 -$125 (New on average) Parking FREE!

Application Process for New Students • Meet with guidance counselor or College & Career Readiness coach to determine your school’s requirements and deadlines. • Complete the online application (http: //gateway. kctcs. edu) • Complete the Parental Consent Form attached to your handout and turn in to your counselor or CCR coach. • If you have AP exam scores or dual credit coursework from any other college, submit these with your consent form. • Counselors or CCR Coaches will submit your transcripts and any placement exam scores along with your completed consent form. • Application deadline for Fall 2020 classes is August 1. • Gateway will collect paperwork after school deadlines and set registration dates that will be announced.
