SVXC Core Values • What is a core value? In short, it’s the DNA of our team. • Goal: For each team member to add value to the team every day. Being fast or one of our top runners, by itself, does not add value. Being able to add value in a group setting is a skill that applies to many facets of life.

Overall Expectations • Please refer to our core values. • Our expectation is that student athletes will take their commitment to the program seriously and come every day with a positive attitude and ready to contribute to the team. • Small offenses- a “written warning. ” These would be anything that go against our core values and negatively impact the dynamic of the team. • To encourage student self-advocacy parents will not be notified directly, however students will be encouraged to share the incident with their parents.

Attendance: Attendance will be taken daily. • Be on time and be ready at the start of practice • Excused absences from practice include: -Being absent from school. (if possible, email coach so he is aware) -You have a doctor’s note regarding an illness or injury, or a personal or family emergency and you have notified your coaches directly, preferably in advance of practice via email or phone (by 2: 00 pm). Students in school must come see Coach Moury.

Conduct, Behavior & Sportsmanship • The following not only apply during practice/meets, but also at school, outside of school and online. 1. ) Insubordinate behavior to any opposing coach, athlete or parent will not be tolerated 2. ) Swearing, vulgar or crude language or context in any manner will not be tolerated. 3) Hazing and initiations of any kind. 4) Poor sportsmanship or taunting is unacceptable. 5) Social Media -You are expected to say nothing, even if you have good intentions, regarding our team as a whole or our individual team members.

Participation in Practice and Competitions: • Practice Matters- Being at practice is the single most important element of success. Practice in mandatory! • Focus – When athletes are at practice, their focus should be on XC and the activity taking place. • Participation in daily practice after school is required for a student to compete in a meet. In addition, missing a meet for any reason beyond illness will disqualify an athlete for the next meet. • If a student misses more than the equivalent of 1 practice per week, they may not be eligible for the next competition, even if those absences are excused, due to potentially not being prepared. • A Grade average of 2. 0 and NO “f’s” - required tutoring until grades improve.

Middle School Developmental Philosophy • Cross Country should be FUN! • FUN is a result of success and following the program. • Our Program is age appropriate in expectations in regards to distance, intensity and frequency. • Each day of running is a small building block placed upon a foundation of the athlete’s distance running “base” that will take 10 -15 years to build. • Middle School bodies are still growing.

Transportation: • As laid out in the student athlete manual, students are expected to

Transportation: • As laid out in the student athlete manual, students are expected to ride district transportation to and from all competitions. • Activity Bus Transportation is provided after daily practices at 5: 15 • To leave a meet an athlete must do these things after an away meet: – Complete and submit the travel release form before entering the bus leaving for a meet. It is required that students who are done competing wait until the end of all events before leaving, however your coaches understand that you may leave early for extenuating circumstances.

Participation Requirement • To be on the active middle school roster (7 -8), athletes

Participation Requirement • To be on the active middle school roster (7 -8), athletes MUST be able to run 30 minutes without stopping/walking. • Girls need to run at 10: 00 pace. • Boys 9: 00 pace per mile or faster. • If an athlete can not complete the Cross Country Course at a conversational pace during practice, there is no way they can compete at race pace.
