Rwandan Genocide • • • Began early April, 1994 Lasted 100 days Some estimates range between 800, 000 and 1 million deaths, with another 2 million refugees Carried out by Hutu supremacist militia groups At least 5, 000 ethnic Tutsis were murdered, along with thousands of Tutsi sympathizers, moderate Hutus, and other victims of atrocity Started when President Habyarimana’s plane was shot down by a missile; no survivors
