Education in Russia now • Education is provided by the state and regulated by the Ministry of Education • 68% of children was enrolled in kindergartens • The improvement of economy after the 1998 crisis resulted in increased birth rate, and because of that there was shortage of kindergartens • Moscow’s kindergarten had a waiting list of 15. 000 children

Education in Russia now • Eleven-year secondary education was limited until 2007 to nine years with grades 10 -11 • Expulsion due to violation of rules is possible only with age 15+ • The eleven-year term is split into elementary, middle and senior classes • Children are accepted to the first grade with the age of 6 or 7
