Russia back then • • Back in 1897 around 28. 4% people were literate In 1930 -50 s the education was inflexible and suppressive The system was rehabilitated back in 1960 -90 s In addition, many textbooks were full of ideology • In the early 50 s around 10% of pupils were held back a year • The fault was on the teacher because of their way of teaching / ignoring pupils disabilities

Education in Russia now • Education is provided by the state and regulated by the Ministry of Education • 68% of children was enrolled in kindergartens • The improvement of economy after the 1998 crisis resulted in increased birth rate, and because of that there was shortage of kindergartens • Moscow’s kindergarten had a waiting list of 15. 000 children

Education in Russia now • Eleven-year secondary education was limited until 2007 to nine years with grades 10 -11 • Expulsion due to violation of rules is possible only with age 15+ • The eleven-year term is split into elementary, middle and senior classes • Children are accepted to the first grade with the age of 6 or 7

School rules • The student will abide all of the school rules and regulations • Students will not possess/use/sell any of controlled or illegal drugs • Students will not commit or take part in any act of violence • Drinking alcohol is not permitted in and/or near the establishment • Students are expected to attend classes and have an average grade “C” • Schools expects to maintain high academic standards
