Russian (Bulshevik) Revolution 1917 • Impact in Europe and America 2 main Battles 1 st (February Revolution)- overthrow of tsarist regime 2 nd (October Revolution)- creation of the communist state (Causes of the Russian Revolution) Causes of the Revolution “For centuries autocratic & repressive Czarist Regimes ruled the country & majority of the population lived under severe economical conditions. ” (Russian Revolution of 1917) 1800’s -1900’s- multiple attempts at overthrowing the overbearing gov. ’t Russian Revolution resulted in the fall of the Czarist government and creation of the Bolshevik Party. Reign of Prince Yaroslav 1019 -1054 • Oldest son of Vladimir I, ruler of Kiev • Yaroslav sent to Govern Novgorod • 1012 - Yaroslav thought his brother was taking his throne, so stopped tribute • Vladimir proclaimed war against son • Sviatopolk (Brother) killed his other 2 brothers after father died • Yaroslav won war • In 11 th century, yaroslav made Russkaia Pravda – Had laws about how to be ‘lawful’ vigilante (Culture of Russia)
The Soviet Union Becomes Russia Soviet Union gov't based off of socialism and communism -employees began to stop working because they would still get paid the same as everyone. (How Sov. Became Rus) -no social classes (The Bolsh. ) Bad farming/less manufactured goods → lack of food Soviet Union begins to decline in 1985 1990 people rose against Soviet gov't and Communist Party. . . Soviet Union collapses. (Year USSR Rus. ) Soviet Union. . . problems w/ socialism → the Union is “voted out” by the people → Commonwealth of Independent States → the Russian flag flying. • The original independence was earned August 24, 1991 from the Soviet Union • Government- may look like an even democracy but its truly an unfair dictatorship under the power of the prime minister Vladimir Putin • It is said the president is elected by a popular vote, and like the US are eligible for a four year term and a second. • Starting at the nearest election in 2012, there will be no vice president and if something happens to the current one the premier serves as president until a election can be held (World Factbook- Rus. Gov. )
• Ever sense the collapse of the Soviet Union the economy has changed drastically • “The Russian economy, however, was one of the hardest hit by the 2008 -09 global economic crisis as oil prices plummeted and the foreign credits that Russian Banks and firms relied on dried up” • In 2009, the unemployment rate in Russia was recorded at 8. 4% • The main agricultural products are grain, sugar beets, sunflower seeds, vegetables, fruit, beef, and milk. • Other main industries include oil, coal, metals, gas, chemicals, and many different forms of machine building.
