RTI Guiding Principles Response to Instruction/Intervention • • RTI - to ensure that every student learns at high levels. Can we predict which students are extremely at risk of failing before we begin core instruction? Denver Elementary Pyramid of Interventions (RTI) Start with Universal Screening Tools TIER I - Daily New Direct Instruction for ALL Students All students in Tier 1 receive high-quality, scientifically based instruction, differentiated to meet their needs, and are screened on a periodic basis to identify struggling learners who need additional support. Tier I also includes intervention provided by homeroom teacher. TIER II - Intervention & Enrichment for ALL (WIN +) In Tier 2, students not making adequate progress in the core curriculum + Tier I are provided with increasingly intensive instruction matched to their needs on the basis of levels of performance and rate of progress. TIER III - VERY intensive Support (Individualized Schedule) Students receive individualized, intensive interventions that target the students’ skill deficits for the remediation of existing problems and the prevention of more severe problems Interventions Led by School wide Teams • Teachers must present RTI Student Profile Sheet to GEI Team • GEI Team will work to complete Instructional Support Action Plan (Worksheet) Tiers 1 & 2 • Students with motivational issues • Students with attendance issues • Students with behavioral issues Tier 3 • Students in need of intensive remedial support in universal skills: reading, writing, number sense, English language, attendance, and behavior Special Education Referral Reference Essential Questions for SPED Interventions Led by Collaborative Teacher Teams Tiers 1 & 2 • Students in need of supplemental support in learning essential core standards Adapted from Buffum, Mattos, and Chris Weber, 2012
