GO-SPIN A methodological tool to map national science, technology and innovation (STI) landscapes and analyze STI policies and their implementation. GO-SPIN supports Member States in collecting and analysing information on STI policies, while reinforcing capacities for analysis and policy-making. UNESCO RRING Meeting in Vilnius & INNOVATION: CSW / GENDER AND SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY UN INITIATIVES 6 November 20/03/2019
Why UNESCO GO-SPIN ? • To improve evidence-based decision making, STI policies design, review, implementation and evaluation; • To identify gaps in policy instruments for implementation; • To allow comparisons with other countries’ STI systems performance, to follow STI indicators’ evolution in time; and • To enhance policy coordination and cooperation among ministries, academia, civil society and private sector • To build capacities in STI governance UNESCO RRING Meeting in Vilnius & INNOVATION: CSW / GENDER AND SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY UN INITIATIVES 6 November 20/03/2019

Where does RRING come in? T 1. 7 Data Management Plan and Reports and Administration (*UCC) • Data management methodology including project wide database, data standards, verification and reuse strategy, curation and preservation based on the H 2020 Online Manual T 1. 11 RRING database: selection of tool and Administration (*UCC, UNESCO) • RRING has a number of options for a database for the project and community, including GO-SPIN • Decision criteria include user friendliness for stakeholders; ease of population with data; ease of altering architecture and code; management issues (during project and post project) • Risk: Improper database management and lack of sustainability • UNESCO will be overseeing the perpetual maintenance of the database for the first year if GO-SPIN is used UNESCO RRING Meeting in Vilnius & INNOVATION: CSW / GENDER AND SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY UN INITIATIVES 6 November 20/03/2019
Challenges • GO-SPIN is open access but was not designed with the EU’s FAIR principles in mind • RRING has an immediate need for a FAIR database • Re-designing GO-SPIN takes time and funding • How can RRI(NG) be incorporated into GO-SPIN? UNESCO RRING Meeting in Vilnius & INNOVATION: CSW / GENDER AND SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY UN INITIATIVES 6 November 20/03/2019
Proposed solutions • Use an existing FAIR-compliant open access repository such as Zenodo or Figshare to bridge the gap • Allows time to re-design GO-SPIN: o Include RRING deliverables and other RRI-related documents o Add RRI sections, fields, filters, etc. (both in back end and front end) o Make GO-SPIN FAIR compliant o Streamline meta-data and other QOL improvements UNESCO RRING Meeting in Vilnius & INNOVATION: CSW / GENDER AND SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY UN INITIATIVES 6 November 20/03/2019
