Uniform • • • Logoed School Uniform can be purchased from our uniform supplier Price & Buckland – www. pbparentsonline. co. uk/royalwoottonbassett On Wednesday 10 th June at our ‘Be Ready for Secondary’ event, there will be time for parents to size uniform We have a summer and winter uniform, however parents of Year 6 will need to purchase the winter one for return from the summer holidays
Uniform
Our uniform is an essential contributor to the ethos of the school and should be worn in a manner which reflects pride in belonging to Royal Wootton Bassett Academy. Similarly, all students are expected to show a pride in their personal appearance. RWBA School uniform is affordable, simple, comfortable and smart. Our school uniform supplier is Price & Buckland can be ordered online via a link on our school website. Acceptable in School NOT acceptable in school Trousers: Grey coloured in a traditional full length, formal style Summer shorts – tailored knee length, not cargo shorts (can be worn after the Easter holidays. Belts: Black only Skirts: Grey coloured traditional school style. Must be at least knee length. No fashion styles eg: skinny, leggings, jeggings, baggy or jeans. No trousers with metal studs, rivets, or accessories such as labels, fake zips. No cord, chinos, patterned fabric, casual trousers or branded items. No decorative belts or buckles. No fashion styles, tight fitting, skater, side slits or wrap around. No figure hugging jersey material, patterned, or textured. No skirts with accessories such as decorative belts, no labels, rivets, obvious zips or pockets. No T shirts to be worn underneath the school shirt. Shirts: White long sleeved button collar suitable for a tie. Summer Polo Shirt: RWBA logoed burgundy polo shirt (can be worn after the Easter holidays only) Jumpers: RWBA black logoed V neck jumper. All jumpers must have the RWBA logo. Tie: RWBA clip on tie Coats: Plain, dark coloured coats should be worn over the school jumper by all students to and from school as appropriate to the time of year and weather conditions. Coats may not be worn inside the building. Footwear: Black shoes. These should be plain, leather or leather look, substantial, hardwearing and of a sensible style. No alternative jumper allowed. No cardigans, sweatshirts or hoodies. Socks: Black or grey ankle socks. Tights: Black, Grey or flesh coloured. Hair: Hair should be neat and tidy. Hair styles moderate and kept to a natural colour. Hair styles should reflect the general expectations of a professional office environment and the school’s expectations. For some activities, long hair should be tied back. Single colour only. No textured, patterned or embellished styles. No extreme haircuts. Eg: shaven heads, mohicans. No unnatural or extreme hair colouring such as bright red, rainbow colours or dipped ends. All hair accessories should be functional and not fashionable. Make up: Should be subtle, and kept to a minimum using neutral tones. Coats should not be worn as a replacement for the school jumper. No Heels, Trainers, boots, canvas, fur, or skate shoes. No fashion styles with accessories such as bows, braiding or studs. No alternative coloured soles or laces. (except for the rainbow laces to support the stonewall charity) No coloured branded logos. No heavy or excessive make up eg: dark brows, thick eyeliner, bright eye shadow or bright lipstick. No nail varnish, gel nails or artificial nails may be worn. Jewellery: should be kept to a minimum. One pair of small stud earrings only. If No facial or oral piercing including nose studs, stretchers in the ears, tongue piercings or ear necklaces are to be worn they must not be seen over the uniform. bars. What happens next? • • March 2020 – RWBA and Parents receive admissions paperwork from Wiltshire LA. Acceptance slips to be returned to their local Council From late March 2020 - Parents receive full data pack from RWBA via their primary school with uniform supplier, music tuition, data forms etc… April 2020 – Year 7 Team and Personalised Learning Team meet with students to answer any worries and concerns and also Year 6 teachers for a detailed overview on each student May 2020 – Mrs Heaphy & Mrs Pocock begin to create Tutor Groups based on information from Year 6 Teachers, Primary Schools and potential Parent input
What happens next? • • • June/July 2020 – Potential individual Inductions for vulnerable/SEN students From 29 th June 2020 – parents can receive a letter via email with notification of their child’s tutor group. Please email in to Mrs Pocock on the email you wish to receive this on A Parentpay letter and an induction day timetable and map will be sent in the post to you before induction days. We will also enclose your child’s Tutor Group letter should you NOT have emailed us Wednesday 10 th June 2010 –’Be Ready for Secondary’ event – you can purchase dictionaries and opportunities to speak to members of staff including transport, music, PP and PE. There will also be a talk in the hall informing you about induction days and start of school in September (5 pm, 5. 30 pm & 6 pm) 9 th & 10 th July 2020 - Induction Days for Year 6
Tutor Groups • • Students are placed into Tutor Groups by Mrs Heaphy and Mrs Pocock using Primary School information and liaising with Mrs Mc. Mullin and the Transition Team The information used from Year 6 Teachers and Primary Schools include factors such as ability range, SEN, G&T, relationships with peers and members of staff, who to place with, who not to place with • All students are placed in mixed attainment teaching groups for core subjects, DT and PE • Five Bassett Houses – Bassett, Berwick, Compton, Winterbourne & Wootton • • Friendship requests only can be submitted, the deadline is 3 rd April 2020 – NO consideration will be given after this date Parents can place requests but these are not guaranteed. Further consultation or discussion can take place via letter, phone or e-mail mpocock@rwba. org. uk
Languages • All students will study French in Year 7 • No other language will be taught in Year 7. • Students will then be offered a second language for Year 8 as languages will be a core GCSE for this cohort. • This is a change in strategy for RWBA due to changes in Government regulations (EBacc) and performance measures. SEND All SEND will be supported by TA led intervention within mainstream classes. Differentiation by the class teacher will ensure inclusion and access to the curriculum for all. All students will gain their full entitlement to the secondary curriculum.
Pupil Premium If your child is entitled to Free School Meals then there is additional support available to you. This includes children who have been eligible at some point in the last 6 years. Head of SEND /PP Intervention Mary Jones mdjones@rwba. org. uk Our Pupil Premium Coordinators track progress and provide additional support. We can also offer financial assistance with things such as basic uniform items, equipment and revision guides. If you think you might be eligible then please apply on the Wiltshire Council website. Services Pupil Premium Children from families in the armed forces are entitled to the Services Pupil Premium. Services Premium Coordinator Andy Draper is our Services Pupil Premium Coordinator and he is responsible for tracking and coordinating intervention to ensure that your child makes good progress. Financial support can be available in circumstances where a need is identified. He can help to provide additional support during deployments and ensure continuity in the event of students having to move schools during the academic year.
Behaviour for Learning • • Students’ holistic and academic development are our prime aims In order to facilitate this, RWBA has adopted a specific Behaviour for Learning Policy that encourages positive behaviours in students that has significantly reduced low level disruptive behaviour, non completion of homework, lack of preparedness for school (equipment or uniform) and lateness to school and lessons We use a ‘Warn C 1, Move C 2 and Remove C 3 system with C 3 and above sanctioned with immediate after school detentions There is a flow chart that explains the Policy on the Academy Website
