+ Child Life n Roy Lichtenstein was born on October 27, 1923 in New York City. n He came from an upper-middle class Jewish family. n He attended public school until he was 12, and then he attended Franklin School for Boys.
+ College Years n Lichtenstein graduated from Franklin School for Boys and left New York to attend Ohio State University. n His college was interrupted by a three year stint in to army during World War II. n After serving, he returned to college in Ohio. n Lichtenstein entered the graduate program at Ohio State and was hired as an art instructor.
+ Art Instructor n He taught at Ohio State until 1951. n He then worked in Cleveland, Ohio until 1957. n Then he taught at Oswego State College in New York until 1960. n After that he taught at Rutgers University in New Jersey. n Three years after starting teaching at Rutgers University he gave up teaching to pain full time.
+ Art Style n Roy Lichtenstein worked in pop art using cartoon images. n He was a painter, sculptor, and printmaker. n He took inspiration from Surrealism, Cubism, and German Expressionism. n Five famous pieces: Drowning Girl, Whaam!, The Head, Red Barn II, and M-Maybe.
+ Different Styles n Lichtenstein worked in many different styles. n For a while his themes dealt with Western themes- cowboys. n Then he began hiding images in his paintings. n And then he began working in one thing he became known for: advertisement illustrations. n He did paintings based on comic strips with themes of passion, romance, science fiction, violence, and war.

+ Late Years n The last work he did was the Dream. Works logo. He said of it: "I'm not in the business of doing anything like that (a corporate logo) and don't intend to do it again, but I know Mo Ostin and David Geffen and it seemed interesting. " n Roy Lichtenstein died in 1997 of pneumonia at New York University Medical Center.
