What do students take from the course • An exciting and dynamic creative experience that enables students to experiment, understand process creative thinking and demonstrate problem solving. • To risk take through a process of investigation, refinement, recording ideas and developing personal and meaningful responses to projects. • To grow as individuals in both knowledge, skill and confidence.

Overview of Component 1 • Component 1 work at RPS is based on theme Natural Forms. • No prior Textile experience is required for the course. • Students create a personal portfolio that builds knowledge and understanding across Textiles. • • • This component allows students to: Develop and explore ideas. Research primary and contextual sources. Experiment with media, materials, processes and techniques. Present personal responses to themes.

Overview of Component 2 • Component 2: An externally set assignment that represents a culmination of the GCSE course drawing together all knowledge, understanding and skill development in Component 1. • Students respond to an externally set broad based thematic starting point; Event, Reflection, Fragments. • Personal preparatory period of study. A portfolio of development work usually represented in sketchbooks. • 10 hour sustained focus period under exam conditions. 2 days.

What knowledge and skills will students gain… • Drawing is a skill we teach in the development of Textile Design, from initial visual research, recording from primary sources, through to the translation of ideas into finished designs. • Annotation of work. • Photography. • Stitched and embellished textiles including hand machine stitching. • Applique techniques. • Weave and knit. • Dyed fabrics including the use of natural and synthetic dyes. • Printed fabrics including screen, stencil printing, heat and photo transfer. • Constructed Textiles.
