61 Hand Water Pumps and 61 Water Storage Tanks in Thar Desert Matching Grant: Rs 854, 000 • Collaboration : RCs of Kunri, Mithi & other Clubs • Kunri area was surveyed & sites were identified • Provided for 61 hand water pumps & 61 rain water storage tanks in areas of acute shortage of water. • Offered Clubs in Dist to join on 50: 50 basis
Water Hand Pumps & Rain Water Storage Tanks 1 Hand Pump serves 25 Families – Average 8 persons per family=200 2 Rain Water Storage Tanks: 1 for cattle 1 for human beings Each tank stores 4, 000 ltrs – Provides drinking water for a family for 6 -8 months.
Service Projects Dr Hoshang Anklesaria: Chair Literacy PP Najmul Ain Khan Jugnoo Sabaq • Rs 137, 500 for Literacy Programme launched on May 4. • 25 Centres located SITE, Baldia Town and Orangi were selected. • Each center will provide education to 20 participants. • 25 teachers/trainers received 500 sets of 4 books each. These books were provided by the Rotary District Literacy Chairman • RCK provided Rs 200, 000 to complete this ongoing program which includes setting up Science Lab in centre run by BES.

Literacy Program Supported Rotaract Club of Nawabshah Knight Riders for Distribution of School Bags to Needy Children. • School bag contained exercise books, pencil, pen and the message ‘END POLIO NOW’. • Cost of bag: Rs 300. • RCK members donated Rs 40, 000. • Lyari School Project Principal and Top Students Honoured • Principal and 3 top most students of Class X, who secured over 83% in SSC exams were honoured at the RCK meeting on October 26, 2009.

Plus Committee was active through advocacy and vaccination follow-up in the madressas and areas of Site Town and Gadap Town of New Karachi. • Provided Assistance in Polio eradication in low income selected areas. Approach: • Monitored difficult access areas. • Located missed children through door to door random checking. • Monitored during NIDs - focused on high-risk areas of SITE, Orangi and Gadap Towns.

Plus Net results • Monitoring was programmed and undertaken in 9 NIDs at: • Committee actively participated in social mobilization in community, schools and madrassas. • Distributed flyers in Urdu to Imams • Pencils, Caps, Badges, T/Shorts, Aprons and “Amazing Stories of Polio” in Urdu to madressa and school students and volunteers. • Work contributed to awareness and in improving vaccination by health authorities • PP Masood Ahmed Bhalli was appointed as Chief Coordinator Field Activity – Sindh.
Rotary Foundation IPP Khalid Gulzar: Chair • Matching Grants PP Masood Ahmed Bhalli • • MG 67324 provided 526 IOC surgeries - closure in 2009. It was conceived, initiated and completed by Rtn Dr. Tariq Aziz. MG 1070811 to provide artificial limbs and clippers to amputees in partnership with Rotary District 5890 in Texas USA. The grant of Rs. 1, 746, 500. 52 was made possible through initiative of Rtn. Dr. Feroz Ismail. Total amount was returned to TRF through the Fiscal Agent, who sent it directly to vendor in India. Progress Report was submitted to TRI, India on May 30, 2010. After receiving the material, Final Report will be submitted within two months of completion of the Project.
Matching Grants • MG 71166 for 61 Hand Water Pumps and 61 Storage Tanks for interior of Sindh in partnership with Rotary Club of Elgin Breakfast. The Matching Grant of 854, 000/- was conceived and initiated by IPP Rtn. Khalid Gulzar. • Payment of Rs 732, 000 has been made. The Project is in final stages and report will be submitted with 2 months of completion. • New Matching Grant request for two more containers of Medical Supplies has been submitted to RC Appleton. • Managing Matching Grants: RCK has a dedicated bank account for Matching Grants, Bank Al Habib Ltd. Stewardship Committee is formed for monitoring.
